16 Week Appointment

My doctors don't tell me what to expect at my appointments too much. They did let me know before the last one that there'd be a pap smear done (yay....) but didn't give me a heads up for week 16 appointment. Anything "scary" I need to worry about? My biggest issue is all the blood work. I don't like needles.

Re: 16 Week Appointment

  • At my 16 week appointment, my OB's office took a urine sample (but they do that at every appointment), recorded my weight, used a Doppler and gave me a script to schedule my a/s. Have you thought about calling your OB's office to find out what your appointment will entail?

  • After seeing so many posts I think everyone's appointments go differently. If your not having an ultrasound your appointment will probably be quick as long as you're not having any problems. They will listen for the heartbeat on the Doppler and make sure you're feeling ok. All my blood work was done between appointments at a lab. I'm not a huge fan of needles so I just look the other direction and its not as bad. I don't think there will be anything scary to worry about.

  • I think the only other blood draws you'll have are for your a/s and the GD screening around 28w. This will obviously vary based on anything that comes up with your pregnancy (I had bloodwork at 32w because of pre-e concerns).

  • As far as I can remember mine consisted of peeing in the cup, taking weight, blood pressure, listening to the heartbeat and then literally like 5 minutes of meeting with my OB. We scheduled my a/s for the following appointment. I honestly don't remember getting blood work at my 16 week. I think your next blood work will be for your GD testing.

  • Weight, BP, doppler check, fundal height measurement, scheduled a/s, and time for a couple quick questions was all I had at my 16 week appt.

  • My 16 week appt is Wednesday. . I'm getting blood work done including the quad test and hearing the heartbeat. They may do an ultrasound because of my high risk situation but just the usual is expected after the blood work and usual prenatal check up.

They don't tell you because you don't ask.
  • Mine is a doppler, weight, bp and urine check. And the second part of the integrated screen, which is the blood draw.
