to those who have made pad-sickles

Two questions!
1) did you use aloe gel WITH or WITHOUT lidocaine? My "recipe" doesn't specify. I'm afraid the lidocaine will be irritating/not good for stitches.

2) Did you use the ultra heavy duty maxi pads or just a normal flow pad? Again, not specified in my "recipe".

Thanks for the input/opinions :)

Re: to those who have made pad-sickles

  • I wouldn't use lidocaine (I didn't last time), but that's just my opinion!
Heavy duty pads hold more water, therefore longer ice time ;)

    Awesome! Thanks so much! :)
  • For what it's worth, I didn't really need these.  They gave me an ice pack right after birth and I don't think it made much of a difference.  The spray that they give you at the hospital is pretty awesome, though it stinks.  Let us know how these work for ya!

  • My hospital had the break & shake ice pack pads which were great because they weren't wet when melting & still absorbed the bleeding. I took tons home with me- after 3.5 hours of pushing with DS they were a lifesaver!
  • Did anyone find these really useful? I haven't bothered with them yet... and don't want to put a ton of effort in in case I end up with a RCS.

  • I used aloe with no lidocaine, and I froze them in a bowl, so that they're curved. I used about 2 tbsp of water for each, about the same in witch hazel, and then aloe over the top. Here's hoping they work!!

  • I used bags of frozen peas.  I tried the padsicle thing and it was too painful with all the swelling I had.

@kwh33ls‌, I didn't think of the bowl idea! That's genius!

@iris427‌, I was also planning on getting some peas for various body parts :)
  • I used 100% aloe, lavender drops and witch hazel.

In response to pps, there was no spray, no ice bags or anything g at my hospital and it's a very well known and huge place! Got my padcicles all ready! I used thinner ones that were overnights.

  • I just used a nb size diaper and it was perfect. Just water. The frozen factor had the perfect amount of flexibility.
Alex has arrived! 9 pounds, 21 inches - 3 weeks early on March 2nd ~went natural - very intense. whew!~
  • My OB recommended Tucks pads.  My SIL recommends the padsicles, though, and gave me supplies to make them.  For hers, she only used pads and witch hazel.
