Hi,
I'm trying to wrap my head around traveling with my 2 under 2 in Sept.
We will be going from NJ to CA with my 2 year old and 3 month old to a wedding.
We (reluctantly) bought a seat for my 2 yr old and will bring his convertible car seat. Infant will sit on our lap. We will be traveling with family so we will have help on the plane.
Here's what I debate over and over again.. suggestions are welcome!!
- Do we bring a double stroller to make things easier when we are there, or umbrella stroller and carry LO in carrier?
- If we go w/ carrier what do we do at the actual wedding and all weekend - carry the kid around like that? Its my brothers wedding and I'd like to have hands free fun for some of the time.
- Bring 2 car seats (one on plane for the 2 year old and baggage check the infant one) or rent the infant one when we get there?
- How to get car seats through the airport?
Any other tips to make things easier? I'm stressing way in advance! Thanks!
Re: Air Travel and a Wedding
Ok, I have experience with air travel with a 9 month old, and wedding experience when she was 1 month, so here's what I got: if your 3 month old likes to be worn I'd do that for the wedding / airport. You might have to take him out for security, but hands free will be much easier and at the wedding that's what I did with DD when she was 1 month and she slept / hung out the whole night. If you aren't planning any other big traveling events for the weekend I'd just bring the umbrellla for your 2 year old. You'll be thankful you got the seat for your older one, not only because it's safer but it'll keep him contained and you can entertain him from there without having him climbing on you. DO NOT rent a car seat at your destination! The stories I've heard from people who work at rental places is they aren't inspected, they could have been through a crash and still used, and they might be expired. They make super cheap luggage straps that you can wrap around your infant seat and attach to a rolling carry on and check it that way. Make sure you gate check the infant seat. Checking isn't recommended in any fashion because it might get tossed and damaged, but gate checking is slightly less harsh and it gets loaded onto the plane right away so it "shouldn't" get lost. I hope this helps, good luck!

You can do this! It's is exhausting to fly with two little ones, but it is completely doable. Enjoy your trip!
