Favorite Baby Names

I'm curious to hear what everyone's favorite baby names are? Even if you're done having babies, I want to hear them!

Girls names were so much easier than boys' names for me and my DH. We agreed on everything! Our favorite girls' names when pg with C:

Evangeline
Adelaide
Wren
Helen (for middle name)

What C's name would've been if she had been a boy:
Giles Julian or
Archer Craig

My favorite boys' names that DH nixed:
Bram
Willem
Rhys
Torrin
Briar
Alaric

Re: Favorite Baby Names

  • Those are pretty creative names.  DD#2 was going to be Spencer if she was a boy.  And DD#3 was going to be Bradford (Brad) if she was a boy.
  • Loading the player...
  • What can I say? We like unusual names. :)

DD#1 is Ivy, DS is Slade, and of course, C stands for Cecily

  • my son is Bram! though in our case it's a nn for Abram.
  • DS1 and the DS on the way would both have been Alice Josephine had they been girls, but I have a good list of girls names I like:
    Lily
    Lucy
    Lydia
    Miriam
    Heidi
    Molly
    Violet*
    Victoria

    DS is Charles Dismas.
No great ideas for baby on they way, because boy names and I don't get along.

*i think Violet is a super pretty name, but my cousin named her daughter that and it weirds me out a little because she is OBSESSED with the color purple. That's like naming your kid after your favorite food or something. The name is still pretty, but it's just odd when you know WHY she named her that.

  • A girl name I love right now is Cressida, but DH's last name starts with K, and I don't care for alliteration. My favorite boy name is Leon but DH has vetoed this hardcore if our next is a boy. So my name search goes on...

  • I've always had an easier time with girl names. Although, we agreed on Finn very early and both of us loved it the best. Our girl name was Hadley Wren. I think I've nixed Hadley, it's getting popular but I still love Wren so much! I'm sad that we could never use it as a first name since it rymes with Finn.

    Other girl names I love:
    Lorelei
    Emerson
    Penelope
    Josephine

Finn is Finnian Michael. I have a hard time coming up with other boys names.
    Theo
    Felix
    Grayson
    Oliver
    Avery

  • DD is Madelyn Josephine (if she was a boy we were between Hayden Wesley and James Elliott).

My other girls names I love:
    Samantha
    Hannah
    Brynn
    Elizabeth
    Norah
    Jane
Francesca (DH veto'd this before we even got pregnant with DD - it's my guilty pleasure)

    Boy favs:
(the 4 I listed above, of course), and...
    Nicholas
    Jacob
    Benjamin
    Liam

@mrshudson618‌ I love Miriam! And one of C's middle names is Violet. But yeah, that's weird about your cousin.

@JEPES1348‌ I really like Cressida. And if she gets married, her last name might not always start with a K.

  • I just remembered 3 girls names that I love that DH vetoed:

    Naomi
    Jane
    Victoria

We had a harder time naming Evelyn than I thought we would. I always loved the name but DH wasn't sure. Then when he agreed to Evelyn I wasn't sure because I didn't want him to regret it later if he didn't like it. I still love it though and I think it suits her.

We also considered Sierra and Aurora for her. I liked Evelyn the best and I didn't want people to think I named her after sleeping beauty because I'm a huge Disney fan lol

I didn't find many boys names that I liked but DH and I both agreed on Carlin. So if we have another and it is a boy, I'm sure that's what we will name him.

  • Girls names were so much harder for us than boys. Too bad we'll never get to use a boy's name :-(

DD1 is Raegan Claire and DD2 is Alexandra Sage (Alex).

If Raegan had been a boy, she probably would have been Jackson (Jack).

We didn't discuss names with #2 until we knew the sex, but if Alex has been a boy, these are the names I really liked (for both first and middle names):
    Tobias, Alexander, Graham, and Bennett.

Hubby also vetoed my other favorite girl's name: Harper Jane

DS1 is Dylan.  Other boy's names on the short list for him were Brandon and Ethan.

DS2 is Grady.  Our other two boy options for him were Brogan and Colby.

Girl names are really hard for us.  With DS1 the only name we ever agreed on was Dakota.  That name has since become way to popular for us, so we nixed it when PG with DS2.  Our top three girl's names with DS2 were Nora, Allison, and Lillian.

Other names I love that we couldn't use for various reasons including them not sounding right with our last name:

    Boys: Ryan, Tyler, Keirnan, Samuel,
Girls: Harper, Alexandria, Lila, Cora, Ada

  • Oh yes, I love Cora, though it's currently quite popular and also doesn't go with MH's last name (I didn't change my name; I couldn't!).

LO is Bria. The other names we're fairly agreed on for future kids are Piper and Beatrix for girls, Leo and Anders for boys. There are tons more names I like that he has vetoed, and pretty much all the names he's suggested are terrible (he likes very boyish names for girls...sigh). Fortunately, we've managed to agree on a few so we're good for a few more kids!

  • Girls names were easy for us, then we found out we were having a boy and could only agree on one name: Colin. We both love the name so it`s not like either of us settled.

My husband was pretty picky about names, I really love the name Hunter, but it was never going to happen. My husband liked Ryerson, which I kind of like, but it`s a bit too `modern` for my taste.

We mutually liked Parker, but we know someone we see fairly frequently (and my husband now shares a group office with) named Parker, so we thought it would have been weird. I`m pretty sure we`re one and done, but if we had a second boy I would really pull for Parker, it goes so nicely with Colin.

If we had a girl she would have been named Paige Elizabeth. Our back-up girls name was Hannah Mackenzie (we really like the middle name Mackenzie I guess ...) The hardest part of girls names was narrowing down the list of all the names we loved. Evelyn and Nora were also top choices.

  • In hindsight, it's good we had a boy. If we had had a girl, she could have been Persephone, Winter, Octavia, or Arya. We only agreed on one boy's name. We had used our favorite boy names on our other kids. My husband likes the more far out names while I prefer classic names. I did strongly consider Requiem when he brought that up, though. Luckily our son made it out with a nice normal name to go along with our other normally named boys. *grin*

  • So @mrshudson618‌ do you think I should nix Ice Cream from my short list? And damn, I was so set on it too. :(

    @Robi1 I love Beatrix
Thanks! It has really grown on me lately. DH likes it too but is worried people will just say Beatrice, but I don't care. The trix is the best part!

You could pull it off if you went for a brand instead. Edy or Breyer maybe?

  • Boys:
    Flynn
    Booker
    Montgomery
    Lincoln
    Graham
    August
    Ezra

    Girls:
    Emilia
    Everly
    Penelope
    Scarlett
    Violet
    Piper

Too bad J vetoed 85% of those... He was much pickier with boy names than girl names, though (which could be how I managed to name G2 a name that was vetoed multiple times ;) )

@ElleBeeDub- I love Graham, August, Ezra and Scarlett. And when do we get to see pics. of your new little miss?!

  • My LO was very nearly a Harper. I changed literally last minute. That or Emma. I had an awful time deciding her name! I still like both names and would consider them in the future.

Boys names: I like Liam and Jackson.
