    Seems like with a hurricane, you've got some time to prepare. You can get the hell out and rescue items of value.

    Hurricanes are awesome. Not super ones that destroy everything, but the weaker ones are just for partying! Tornadoes are never cool.

    Tornadoes scare the shit out of me because I've never seen one IRL.  So I vote tornado.  HOWEVER hurricanes are nasty, too.  Katrina and Sandy, anyone?

    Correct me if I'm wrong, but a hurricane = a tornado + water, right?

    I voted hurricane. We have been through a few.  Hurricanes tend to give more warning and more time to evacuate than do tornadoes.  We have stayed through a few minor hurricanes and enjoyed the rain and cool weather.  We did not enjoy the week with no power after though.

    No. Most tornadoes are very short lived (as short as a few minutes). Hurricanes and TSs can last for weeks.

    Yep. Lived in New Orleans during Katrina.

    South Louisiana here. Tornados scare the day lights out of me. Hurricanes not so much. They are a pretty normal thing around here.
