shocked and scared (nbr)

The lease of my apartment is up in the middle of August, it was supposed to be July, but there were some problems with the lease that came up. I live here with my husband, LO, and twin brother. Well tonight my twin brother was packing up his car because he is moving into a house with his friends. He was robbed at gun point and then the guy shot his gun. My brother was not hit and ran away. I was in the the shower and my DH asked me where my brother was and told me to go check on him because he thought he heard a gun shot. I go down to see my brother pulling up in a cop car. He called the cops after running away. He left tonight and doesn't plan to come back until he has a group of friends to help him move.

Now I'm freaked out and don't know what to do. My DH and I were supposed to move in 2 weeks, but now he wants leave Saturday. There are a few problems that need to be fixed before we move in. My DH wants me to go to my IL's tomorrow when he leaves for work at 4:30am.

I'm stressing because we need to pack the whole apartment and I'm afraid to even step outside the apartment. Not to mention I have a 10 week old to deal with and worry about his safety. DH is putting lo to bed so we can talk about our next step. I don't know what to do from here. I just want to cry. I want my family to be safe. It's not like we live in that bad of an area now. Ugh. Thanks for letting me vent and rant.

  • Oh man, that sounds so scary! Hopefully you and DH can talk it out and get on the same page and can get out of there quickly. Good luck!!!
  • So scary :( I would try to remember that this has not happened before and it is generally a safe neighbourhood. That being said I would still be nervous....however it could happen anywhere. A shooting happened at my favourite mall, but I still shop there (for example). Glad your brother is okay!

That's so scary, I'm really glad that your brother is fine. I agree with @dani+california‌ and @Calla123‌ however that if your neighborhood is generally safe, it would seem like a one off.
Good luck with whatever you decide, and FX that your move goes smoothly.
  • So scary! I'm glad your brother is ok.

I honestly don't know what I would do in your situation but I'm sure you and your DH will make the best decision for your family.
