  • I guess I'm in the minority, I like snakes as long as I know they aren't poisonous. When I was little, my parents had to have a rule that I could only catch snakes with lines running down their back (i.e. garter snakes). And my nephew has pet ball pythons that are awesome, my sister wore one around her neck as part of her Halloween costume a couple years ago (she was Eve), freaked people out when they realized it was a real snake.

I'm a little late to this, forgive me for not opening the "YIKES!" thread sooner :P
Copperhead snakes have a blunt tail without much color variation from their body (unless juvenile; their tails are yellow). Patterns are also more like an hourglass than the wider bands pictured. So, I vote corn snake (but I'm not an expert either). Fun fact: when startled or cornered, they'll do their best impression of a rattler, coiling up & shaking their slightly-lighter-in-color tail.
Poisonous or not, though, I see how this would be a startling sight to behold!

Absolutely! My husband is in the "the only good snake is a dead snake" camp, but I've been working hard to change that! The best argument I can give sometimes is "they eat spiders" which may not be fair (he's known to suffer from arachnaphobia)... but it works.
  • A neighbor just found a copperhead in her child's play house in her back yard! Freaking out!

Banding makes me say it's a corn snake. Regardless, of course it's a good idea to check your kids outdoor toys. I'd be more concerned about a black widow or something planting its self on one than a snake.

Eta: Just because I see the spiders happening way more frequently.

  • cotton mouths are also known as water moccasins not copper heads. I have had close and unfortunate encounters with those.

    It does resemble corn snake.

regardless I would prefer no random snakes coming around.
  • I had this problem at our first place not with kids toys just with pets in backyard... There are ways to handle them either call someone or take care of it yourself.
  • :-SS [-X X_X yoza!
  • I seriously just jumped out of my bed and shook the covers when I saw that picture. Don't ask me why I thought the snake got into my bed, but ahhhhhh!!

  • I pray that wherever this pic was taken it is far the hell away from me! *shudder*
  • So thankful there aren't any snakes around where I live. That would scare the crap out of me.
