Vacation Packing

Hi all!
Leaving for a beach vacation for a week with the family. My baby girl is 18 months and I was wondering if anyone had any advice on how to pack for her. A list would help, but i really want to try to avoid over packing. Also, a suggestion for good and easy to apply sunscreen would be appreciated. Thank you everyone...

Re: Vacation Packing

  • yay! beach vacay!

we are frequent beach goers (live in FL) our essentials for DD are:

    swim suit
    extra swim diapers
    swim shoes
    sun hat
    sunglasses
    toys
something for shade- sun shack, umbrella (sometimes have those to rent on beach), or tent.
    beach towel
    plenty of water
lunch and snacks-- watch out for seagulls!!

Sunscreen wise we use a lotion. I put it on at home before we get to the beach and get all sandy. Plus she gets so wiggly and wants to get in the water. I've seen sunscreen sticks and sprays- perhaps try those?

    have fun!

  • Are you wanting advice for the beach itself, or the vacation as a whole?

If it's the vacation as a whole, you definitely don't want to overpack!  Will you have a washer/dryer available?  If so, I would take enough clothes for 2 outfits and 1 pair of pajamas for half the week, and then do laundry mid-vacation.  Pack outfits that are easy (PP recommended sundresses - totally agree), and outfits that match one or two neutral pairs of shoes that she has.  DD has a pair of simple white sandals, and I always try to pack all the clothes we have that match those to avoid extra shoes/socks.  I would take 2 swimsuits for a beach vacation (to rotate/wash as needed).  Also 1-2 sun hats, sunscreen (we use neutrogena pure & free baby faces lotion and love it), and maybe some rashguard shirts depending on how much you'll be outside with her, and water shoes to prevent hot sand from burning her feet.

Also, take baby powder.  If LO isn't wet but still has sand sticking to her, baby powder gets it off without getting her wet again!
  • I know I overpack and my DH always reminds me that we're not going to the moon - there are Targets and Walmarts everywhere - but I just don't like to be without a thermometer and medicine because who wants to have to haul ass to the store if your kid suddenly gets sick?  I also want to waste zero time doing laundry even when I could so I bring all the outfits lol
