Re: Cloth Diapering Check In

  • 1. What is your current status with CD? Experienced STM? Thinking about it? Full on addicted?
I am a FTM and am fully committed to CD. The newborn stash is complete and I feel like I am learning a ton on the CD board and from friends who have cloth diapered.

    2. What is your favorite CD? Bonus points for a cute photo
This is the cutest NB diaper in the stash. image

    3. Are your friends and family supportive of your decision to CD?
My friends are super supportive and my family thinks I am nuts. We are getting lots of comments about "when we fail" or "when we give up" from family.

    4. GTKY: Where do you live currently?
    Seattle

    5. GTKY: Since I am getting this question all the time....do you consider yourself a crunchy mama?
I am a crunch pragmatist. I love the greenness of CD but also have really sensitive skin and love how much money it saves.

  • 1. What is your current status with CD? Experienced STM? Thinking about it? Full on addicted?
Doing lots of research and nervous but excited to try it out! Well as excited as you can be about diapers and poop :)

I read a whole bunch of stuff on the Green Mountains Diaper website and it was SUPER helpful! I highly recommend newbies to CD read it. I am new to all the info and I felt more confident about purchasing stuff after spending some time there.

    2. What is your favorite CD? Bonus points for a cute photo

None yet :( but I freaking love the elephants!!! What brand is that @MissMandyD‌

    3. Are your friends and family supportive of your decision to CD?
My mom, DH and MIL are and I guess that's all that matters since they will help care for baby when I am at work or DH and I are out. I know my extended family is going to be shocked when they see CDs on my registry and think I am insane but whatever. They think I am insane for breast feeding too so too bad for them. I make different choices judge on!

    4. GTKY: Where do you live currently?
    Massachusetts

    5. GTKY: Since I am getting this question all the time....do you consider yourself a crunchy mama?
Nope but I am somewhat conscientious of the environment and my money so CD is up my alley. My DH is more crunchy than me I think.

  • 1. What is your current status with CD? Experienced STM? Thinking about it? Full on addicted?
I'm a TTM, but STM with cloth diapering.  I've cloth diapered DS since he was 4 weeks old and I'm happy with my decision - especially all the money we save.    I had a facebook friend due a month before me with DS and she posted a lot of articles on CDing, which I read and got me really interesting two years ago.   Then I went to a free CDing class at our hospital before DS was born and I was sold.

    2. What is your favorite CD? Bonus points for a cute photo
I attached two photos below.... 1st fav: Spiderman (DS was about 4 weeks in that shot).  2nd favorite is a cow (around 18 months).  We got our whole stash on Ebay at a great price, so I have only every used Happy Flutes.  Luckily they worked for us and our stash (30 pockets and 60 inserts) was about $140.  I don't think I could have done better price wise.

    3. Are your friends and family supportive of your decision to CD?
My sister-in-laws think it's weird.  My mom is cool with it, but insists on buying disposables for DS whenever we come visit "to make it easier for me."   (we live 7 hrs away).  DH is on board, mostly because of the savings...  He will actually even spray them out now if he gets stuck changing a poopy diaper.

    4. GTKY: Where do you live currently?
    Rural Iowa

    5. GTKY: Since I am getting this question all the time....do you consider yourself a crunchy mama?
I had to look up what that meant... and no... not crunchy, but I would say Thrifty.

  • 1. What is your current status with CD? Experienced STM? Thinking about it? Full on addicted?
I have been doing it for about 15 months now! It is so much easier than I thought it would be, and of course I am addicted seeing how I have enough CD's to have 2 in them :)

    2. What is your favorite CD? Bonus points for a cute photo
I am a huge fan of all the Bum Genius and Flip diapers.  ( added bonus the Bum Genius 4.0s work great as a swim diaper)
This is back in December showing off her new Alice in Wonderland print Diaper. image
    3. Are your friends and family supportive of your decision to CD?
I think so, no one really ever expresses their opinion on it.

    4. GTKY: Where do you live currently?
    Suburbs of St. Louis

    5. GTKY: Since I am getting this question all the time....do you consider yourself a crunchy mama?
I have no idea what a crunchy mama is.

  • 1. What is your current status with CD? Experienced STM? Thinking about it? Full on addicted?  FTM, so starting to build our stash with sales.

    2. What is your favorite CD? Bonus points for a cute photo.  Can't decide yet.  They are all adorable!

    3. Are your friends and family supportive of your decision to CD?  Yes and no.  DH isn't convienced yet but is willing to "try it" as long as it "isn't too complicated".  He is thinking that the snaps will confuse him.  Honestly, how hard it is to know to put the snaps at the correct growth stage and then secure around the belly as you would a disposable - we are mainly going to be doing AIOs due to day care rules.  However, other family members cloth diaper so it isn't a foreign concept to DH.

    4. GTKY: Where do you live currently?  Metro DC area.

    5. GTKY: Since I am getting this question all the time....do you consider yourself a crunchy mama?  Not really.  I love the benefits of cloth diapers and think that disposables are a waste of money in most cases.

This is a Cocalo Bum cover. It isn't actually my favorite (I love kawaii P&N), but it is the cutest:

I love this cover! I have been looking for a "denim" small diaper cover for pictures and the one on the GMD site has disappeared.

I have always CD my 2yo and plan on It with DS when he gets here!

    2. What is your favorite CD? Bonus points for a cute photo

I really only use FuzziBunz one size and LOVE them!

    3. Are your friends and family supportive of your decision to CD?

Friends and family are supportive! Our parents just don't want to have to wash diapers/don't know how.

    4. GTKY: Where do you live currently?

    Texas

    5. GTKY: Since I am getting this question all the time....do you consider yourself a crunchy mama?

Eh... I'm about 50/50. I try to be as healthy/green as possible. I'm definitely not über crunchy (I wish I could be!)

  • 1. What is your current status with CD? Experienced STM? Thinking about it? Full on addicted?  FTM definitely planning to CD, just overwhelmed by all the options out there.

    2. What is your favorite CD? Bonus points for a cute photo
My current plan (haven't bought anything yet) is to to go with prefolds and Thirsties covers for newborn/smaller stages and see how we do.  Then for bigger baby either get the size 2 covers or, if dissatisfied, start trying out different systems and go from there.

This argyle cover is my favorite of the ones I put on my registry:image

    3. Are your friends and family supportive of your decision to CD?  I'm not sure any of them know?  And I'm going to be the one diapering 80-90%+ of the time and doing all the laundry so I don't see why or how anyone else would care.

    4. GTKY: Where do you live currently?  Ohio for five more weeks(!) then off to Pennsylvania for my husband's post doc.

    5. GTKY: Since I am getting this question all the time....do you consider yourself a crunchy mama?  Um, kind of wannabe crunchy?  I love the earth, dislike waste, and enjoy saving money.  I plan to babywear, CD, breastfeed, etc etc...if that makes me crunchy than so be it.  I got my husband to agree to CDing based purely on the money factor though.

We have been cloth diapering since the day we got home from the hospital (18 months) and are very happy with our decision.

    2. What is your favorite CD? Bonus points for a cute photo

Blueberry Simplex hands down with Bumgenius and Rumparooz tied for second and third.

    3. Are your friends and family supportive of your decision to CD?

They don't have a choice but I'm the type to tell them where they can put any nasty comments they might have.

    Near Atlanta

    1. What is your current status with CD? Experienced STM? Thinking about it? Full on addicted?  I've been CD for 3.5 years :)  We started with DS#1, and are currently with DS#2.  I'll admit, I am full on addicted.

    2. What is your favorite CD? Bonus points for a cute photo  Bumgenius are by far my favourite.  They aren't fancy or necessarily cute, but they do the job the best for us.  I do also have some Kawai'i Baby diapers that I go to for the function AND cute factor.
My Fav. Kawai'i Baby diaper, it's also a soft velour fabric on the outside.  DS#2 likes to sit there and pet his diaper :) image

    3. Are your friends and family supportive of your decision to CD?  Absolutely.  DH actually does all the diaper laundry at night, I just have to fold/stuff the clean diapers.

    4. GTKY: Where do you live currently?  I'm about an hour outside Seattle

    5. GTKY: Since I am getting this question all the time....do you consider yourself a crunchy mama?  Not really.  I'm a survivalist mama.  I do what I need to do to survive.  If that means my kids have frozen corn dogs for dinner 3 nights in a row cause that's all they'll eat, so be it!  I like CD because I've saved a ton of money on diapers and my kids seem to really prefer the feel of them, and I can't say that I blame them!  Honestly, the environmental aspect never even factored into the decision for us.

@geetargirl05, that diaper is way too cute!  If I could get it in snap closure I'd be all over it!  After trying the Aplix though, I refuse to buy any more aplix closure diapers.  My snap diapers have proved way more durable and, honestly, easier to wash and maintain.

TotsBots aplix is the bomb!! The dipes do come in snap...but their snaps suck.
    ***
My biggest problem with the aplix is that DH or I would always forget to fasten it before throwing it in the diaper pail.  Then when it gets washed you end up with a tangled mess that does nothing but ruin the aplix.  Became a lot easier and less frustrating to just go with snaps. That being said, I
    really want this print!!

I used disposables with my son, but I really wished that he was in cloth. Now that I feel more confident/prepared regarding newborn care in general, I'm ready to tackle cloth. Simplicity is my number one priority, so my stash is almost all prefolds and covers.

    2. What is your favorite CD? Bonus points for a cute photo. I'm excited about my GMD prefolds! They are so buttery soft.

    3. Are your friends and family supportive of your decision to CD? I suppose--I haven't mentioned it to most people because I don't think they'd really care either way.

    4. GTKY: Where do you live currently? Long Island

    5. GTKY: Since I am getting this question all the time....do you consider yourself a crunchy mama? I guess so. I don't like the label (who would?) but I gravitate toward many traditional/attachment parenting practices.

  • So ladies I thought I go ahead and start the cloth diapering check in.

    1. What is your current status with CD? Experienced STM? Thinking about it? Full on addicted? STM - we used cloth with DD a little but I never built a full stash. I am committed to doing it through the newborn stage to see how I like it and will decide from there.

    2. What is your favorite CD? Bonus points for a cute photo
For DD, who was 6+ months when we used cloth, I like the BG 4.0. I am really excited to try prefolds, fitteds, and covers with this baby.

    3. Are your friends and family supportive of your decision to CD?
I havent had many comments...we will see once I get into it

    4. GTKY: Where do you live currently?
    Nebraska

    5. GTKY: Since I am getting this question all the time....do you consider yourself a crunchy mama?
Faux crunchy - is that a thing? I really like learning about alternative ways to do things that are good for the environment and save money, but I have a long way to go

    Experienced STM.

    2. What is your favorite CD? Bonus points for a cute photo

Green Mountain Diapers workhorse...absolute best with a wool cover (found 1 size on etsy with snaps!! ). I also use liners to help with the poop clean up.

    3. Are your friends and family supportive of your decision to CD?

Husband is super supportive and even said he likes them better than disposable but he hasn't changed the poop ones. Although I prefer disposables when out and about and sleep time. Daycare also will not cloth diaper (boo hiss).

With my daughter I loved the Kawaii Bamboo Mom Label. I have always wanted to try out a Twinkie Tush (TT) I came so close to buying one today (as I have many times before) but I always talk myself out of it due to price. I'm afraid I will love them and want to buy them all!

    3. Are your friends and family supportive of your decision to CD?
Eh....I have a friend who CD's but just one. My family wouldn't touch them but didn't give me crap for using them. H isn't happy about using them but puts up with it for the cost.

So so I guess. I make a lot of my own things such as sunscreen, lotions, shampoo, butter, bread etc. But we still eat fast food once in a while.
