Pregnant after a Loss

When did your First Trimester Symptoms Go Away?

I think this is probably just my PgAL brain rearing its ugly head again after my great appointment on Monday,  but today I'm feeling...good!  The past several weeks I've had exhaustion like I couldn't believe and today I'm actually feeling kind of perky.

So of course I'm terrified.  I'm 10w1d which seems way too early to lose my symptoms and of course I know that pregnancy symptoms come and go but this one was really my primary (other than mild nausea, moodiness and tender nipples) so naturally PgAL brain is in overdrive.

So: when did your first tri symptoms start to go away?  Was it scary, or mostly a relief?  Am I being crazy?  (I know I'm being crazy, but feel free to tell me so.)

Thanks ladies.

Re: When did your First Trimester Symptoms Go Away?

  • I had m/s through my entire first trimester.  I felt better between 10 and 11, actually, and then got the stomach flu just after I hit 11 weeks.  It went back to being pretty awful until about 13/14 weeks.  My boobs stopped being super tender right around 10 or 11 weeks and came back recently since I'm apparently making colostrum now (had a weird leaking episode in the bath last week).  So yes, I had symptoms come and go a bit.  I was actually relieved when I could eat again.

I will say, when I first got sick, one of the RNPs at my old OB office said this to me, "While having symptoms (like m/s) can mean things are going well, it doesn't work the other way.  Symptoms come and go and a lack or loss of symptoms doesn't mean anything is wrong."

With my first pregnancy (super easy pregnancy resulting in a full-term baby), I had a few minimal symptoms in the first weeks that all went away about week 9 or 10.  I didn't have any more symptoms until approx. my 5th month when I started getting heartburn.
  • I think for all PGAL moms-to-be, the loss or lessening of symptoms is a scary thing. I believe yours sounds right on track, but everyone's experiences with symptoms are different. My first-tri symptoms (morning sickness, sore bbs) were gone in week 8. It freaked me out because I only really had them for about a week and a half. Try not to read into your symptoms too much and just enjoy feeling a little bit better. And who knows, they might be back in a few days!
  • I'm super nervous because I only have slight nausea that comes and goes and sore boobs that also come and go. It's crazy that I wish I felt more symptoms! Lol. I truly just think every pregnancy is different and symptoms coming and going doesn't mean that much. Hang in there ! PGAL brain sucks

  • I understand your PgAl brain!!! If it helps, my symptoms actually started easing up after my 10th week. I would say my nausea was almost completely gone by 11-12 weeks.

  • I felt better for about 4 days during week 10 (feeling like normal) and then they all came back big time. Didn't actually throw up for the first time until week 11! Finally felt all the way better by about week 13-14. Nausea these days is really random and happens only a couple times a week.

The only symptoms I really have had is fatigue and heartburn. The fatigue totally let up just before my 10 week appointment. Heartburn is still a pain, but I hear that is common in 2nd tri.

  • Really helps to read all of these. I have had miscarriages in the past. I felt extremely nauseous, tired and my boobs were very sore for several weeks, then right around the 9w mark the nausea went away, my boob soreness also lessened, and I even felt less tired. I freaked out so badly that I went to the ER and lied about having bleeding and cramps (I know, I am a horrible person but they wouldn't do an ultrasound any other way and I was driving myself insane with worry-I have had 3 miscarriages) and the babies were fine! It was a relief for about a week, but now I am worrying again because I feel like the slight symptoms I was still experiencing have gone away. I know I am crazy. It is just so hard not to worry. My Dr. appt is tomorrow though.

Anyways, I guess what I am trying to say to anyone who might be reading this worried about their own symptoms diminishing is if you can try not to worry :) I do believe it when everyone says all pregnancies are different, symptoms come and go, etc. Good luck to you. This is an older post but I just wanted to chime in.

  • My first pregnancy I had morning sickness until about 18-19weeks (so it was obviously a relief when it went away). This time around I had a few really bad morning sickness days around 5.5-6weeks. The last few days I've been ok, not great, but definitely better. I was having such a terrible time trying to work, take care of a toddler and have morning (actually all day) sickness that I decided I would rather worry than be nauseous. I'm just hoping that it doesn't rear its ugly head again.

  • I just noticed this is an older post, but also wanted to chime in. During my first pregnancy I had zero symptoms. I didn't feel pregnant at all!

This second pregancy is so much more different. Week 6 was the worse for me. These last few weeks, I have felt great with very little nausea. I have realized that eating small snacks throughout the day help a lot. PGAL brain does get the best of me, but I just take it day by day.

  • I'm gearing up for week 8, and while they're still here, I must say that every day is different. Some days boobs hurt, some days they don't. I dry heave most mornings after I have a drinks and brush my teeth. Some days I have energy, some days I feel like I'm dying. I've learned to accept that symptoms come and go, and there's no point in over-analyzing. It's so hard, but it is what it is?
