Babies: 0 - 3 Months

One month old not sleeping

DD's sleep has been off for about the past 3 days.  She has barely been sleeping at all during the day.  She used to always take at least a good 3 hour nap in the afternoon and then nap again in the evening and lately she has been only sleeping a few minutes here and there during the day.  DH and I would get excited and think she's going to sleep great at night and she still will only sleep for a 3-5 hour stretch and then it will take us a couple hours to get her back to sleep.  And then she will sleep for only small periods of time.  Any ideas?

Re: One month old not sleeping

  • My suggestion: She's only 4 weeks old, thats what babies do. Roll with the punches.

  • Actually you will find the more sleep babies get during the day the better their sleep is at night, but a 3-5 hour stretch is great for her age. I agree with the PP roll with the punches she is still very young and that is just how babies sleep.
  • This sounds familiar.  She will eat and want to stay up for 2-3 hours at night before going back to sleep.  Then its time to feed again since she eats every 3-4 hours.  Thats the most we get.  Good Luck
  • our sleep patterns never got "regular" (if you can call it that) until DS was around 3 months old -- just hang in there with it -- it will get better!

  • My DD is around the same age & does the same thing. ?Enjoy the 3-5 hr span. ?Hopefully we will both enjoy more sleep soon!
