3rd Trimester

Contractions for the past 3 days...

I'm 34 weeks and have been having contractions for 3 days. It started Sunday evening at Target and I thought they were Braxton Hicks, but when I woke up the next day they had not gone away. Im feeling the pain in my lower pelvis and REALLY bad back pain. On Monday I went to my OB and she put me on a NST. I was having contractions ever 2 min lasting for 20 seconds, and consistent for 45 min.while hooked up. No matter if I walk or lay down, they don't stop. She told me to go home and rest and prepare for labor. She said she does not stop labor at 34 weeks, even when I asked. Contractions were getting worse and more intense throughout the night and by 4am the next day I called my Dr again to let her know. She told me to go to L&D and have cervical exam and for another NST. On the NST, I was having consistent contractions still, but now 1 min apart and 30 seconds long. The Dr on call checked me and I wasn't dilated and sent me home again and told me to come back when the contractions are more intense. So now it's day 3 and I'm still having contractions and wondering when things will progress...

My question- Has anyone had this happen for days like this with consistent, painful contractions that aren't stopping, but aren't having any cervical change?

Re: Contractions for the past 3 days...

  • When I was pregnant with my second, I had contractions for one day that kept coming--then they completely stopped. I did not start back up again for another week. I'd say your body is just preparing for labor, and don't stress it. You're 34 weeks so no need to rush things! There are plenty of stories on these boards of people getting contractions for weeks, even 2 months before they actually delivered! It's annoying, I know, but you should probably wait it out and go back when they are stronger and closer together.

I have had contractions for the past 13 days. At one point (just over 34 weeks) I was in labor and delivery for 6 hours with contractions 2 minutes apart. I am not dilated or effaced at this point (36 weeks). I haven't gone longer than 10 minutes without a contraction for the past 13 days. It happens. I'm expecting a few more weeks of this.
  • This went on for three weeks when I had DS. They were all day ( not crazy painful ), then at night I would time them. They seemed to calm down when I would get in bed. My OB said I would KNOW when it was go time. Yes, three weeks!
  • Yes I started having contractions at 32 weeks. I am now 37 weeks and I've had them on and off since 32 weeks. My Dr. said I have what's called an irritable uterus. It sucks but is fairly common. Good luck.
