I took E to the pedi yesterday for a fever and she has a double ear infection. Last night when I was up with her I noticed two pea-sized rubbery knots on the base of her skull/behind her ear. I have never noticed them before. Has anyone else noticed anything like this? I want to think they are lymph nodes that are a little swollen from the infection, but of course I'm no doctor. I called and left a message with the pedi yet again and am waiting on a call back.
Re: lymph nodes/cysts?
I was under the impression they appear for illness (fighting etc) but he has them all the time.
@kelly422 Could they appear for teething? (Sorry to bug you! I just got worried again...)
Lymph nodes get big if they're fighting infection or even inflammation. A lot of times the scalp lymph nodes get big when babies have cradle cap or dry skin. I guess technically teething can cause inflammation, so there can be enlarged lymph nodes, but I haven't seen that very often. If the lymph nodes are small (like pea sized), no big deal.
