What position do you sleep in?

Are you trying to sleep on your left?  Do you feel more comfortable on your belly or on your right?

  • I'm a side sleeper. It currently doesn't matter how you sleep. They say to sleep on your left when you are big and pregnant to keep your blood flowing well to vital organs. I slept on my stomach until 15 weeks last time!

  • I sleep on my sides, with waking up every 3 hours to pee I just flip around every time I come back to bed. lol
  • I naturally sleep on my left side (sometimes right). So I will just continue doing that!

  • I am a belly sleeper but it must be putting too much pressure on my uterus because I wake up really uncomfortable. I've been trying to fall asleep on my left side but I always wake up on my stomach.

I think I'm gonna pick up a Snoogle body pillow today and see if that helps.

  • I alternate sides. I use to sleep on my back but kept having back pain and I read if you sleep on your side it will help. Haven't had back pain the last 2 nights!

  • I'm normally a back or stomach sleeper, but have been trying to train myself to sleep on my sides (left mostly).  I'm doing a decent job and getting more comfortable.  I've noticed just the last few nights that sleeping on my stomach directly isn't all that comfy (I'm 8w4d).

I fall alseep on my left side, but rotate all night. Sometimes I wake up on my back. Your body will tell you when not to lay on your back anymore. It will become to much presure to handle.

  • I'm a belly sleeper. But I can sleep on either side if I'm forced too. Sleeping is starting to get uncomfortable, and I have a feeling that a body pillow purchase is in my immediate future.

Well we are not cuddlers, but DH just deals. I'm making a life inside me and I want to be comfortable. With both of us, the pillow and the dog in the bed, it's tight. But we both manage. I think last time I started using the pillow around 20 weeks. I don't have it anymore (I borrowed it last time) and am thinking about getting another one. It was a life saver, but it's not cheap.

Honestly I don't think H will care at all as long as it doesn't end up on top of him or something. We both get too hot snuggling for any extended period of time...especially when I'm pregnant and burning up anyway!

  • When I can actually sleep now it's almost always on my belly. I know it's going to be hard to break once my belly gets bigger, but hopefully by then I won't feel so sick when laying down.
  • Thanks all!! I think I'll hold off without the pillow for as long as I can....PS: I saw it last night at Destination Maternity (they've got BOGO thing going + bonus bucks) so if you can find a friend.... :)

  • @frugal11 We do cuddle, but we tend to spoon more than anything so I can still hug the pillow. If we cuddle where I am curled into him, I just leave the body pillow on my other side so I can grab it when I need to move. DH is like a big body pillow (I hug him the same way, haha).

  • I'm normally a side sleeper anyway (right) but I've been all over the place recently. As for body pillows - my SO and I will start the night cuddling but after about an hour it's just way too hot for either of us and we both turn outwards. I don't think he's going to mind if I have a body pillow on the side that he isn't. Just personal preference to each individual. I saw a body pillow on pinterest that looks like heaven though.

Am I the only one who isn't into cuddling with DH? We are so non-touchy when it comes to sleep. There are nights where I can't get comfortable and him and the dog snore so loud that I go into the spare bedroom to sleep. He doesn't care now that he realizes I'm much more pleasant when I get a good nights sleep.

  • I'm normally a stomach or back sleeper so this side stuff is a pain for me, but I'm trying! I bought a Snoogle over the weekend and I can honestly say it's made a world of difference. Definitely worth the investment. I'm 9 weeks btw.

I definitely got used to sleeping on the left with my daughter but I am a normal side/back sleeper. I sleep with a pillow bw my legs now. I had a friend who let me borrow a preggo pillow which I used and added a wedge pillow with it towards the end. That helped push my belly up better which helped me sleep longer. The worst now is just already having to get up to use the bathroom or waking from a weird dream (which I had last night.). My husband and I are cuddlers (when he is home) so I have nights when it is just me so I enjoy spooning - although towards the end it ends up being "don't get up on me but here's a leg you can touch"-haha
  • TUMMY sleeper all the way! I don't know what I'm going to do once my belly gets too big. ;)

  • Sleeping on my stomach. I will do this until its physically not possible. And as for sleeping on my left. no more than I will sleep on my right. As you get later in your pregnancy, your hips might hurt like mad and switching sides will probably be necessary.
  • I was a stomach sleeper until my last pregnancy. Trust me, dont worry about training yourselves to side sleep now because eventually its SO uncomfortable you wouldn't think of sleeping on your belly. You might as well enjoy the little bit of time you have left sleeping on your tummy.

  • I must be weird - I'm an indiscriminate sleeper - sleep on my back, belly, and both sides, I constantly move around at night and usually hit at least 3 positions each night. I sleep with my arms under my pillow, so when my pillow gets flat, my arms fall asleep/hurt - so that usually causes me to change positions.
  • I'm a stomach sleeper. I will sleep on my stomach until I can't anymore and then use a pillow to sleep in some cross between stomach and side.
