Pre-E and protein catch question

I have a question about Pre-E diagnosis. At my 30 week appt. my blood pressure was a little high (138/85). He sent me over to labor and delivery and monitored me for 1 hr. and my blood pressure never went over 100/56 and my blood work (Pre-E panel) came back great. He asked me to do a 24 hour urine catch- which I did. I have GD and I have read that GD can contribute to mild-elevated protein numbers on the 24 hr. test. So I am hoping that is all this is.

I got a call today from the nurse saying my numbers are slightly elevated and that puts me in the slight pre-e category and that I will need to begin twice a week NSTs and weekly Ultrasounds.

My hope is that they monitor me for changes rather than just prescribe immediate bedrest. I am terrified that they will just put me on bed rest, which would really rough this early in my pregnancy because I don't want to lose maternity leave from work and I have a 2 year old. I will certainly take it easy until I go to my doctor's appt. and hear from him on Monday.

Anyone else in a similar situation or has experience with this? This happened to me last time, but I was 37 weeks so I was put on bedrest for 1 week and induced at 38 weeks.

Re: Pre-E and protein catch question

  • Sending positive vibes your way! I am in the same boat minus the GD and I am already on strict bed rest. I am hoping for the best for you. We can be pre pre-e buddies. Keep us updated!

  • I hope you don't have to be on full bed rest this early on, the monitoring will give them a better idea though, mostly they want that blood pressure to stay low. It's unfortunate as soon as things start swinging that direction it can happen quickly you're suddenly Pre-eclamptic. :/  That being said I know how hard it is, I have a two year old too. I tried to be good yesterday on bedrest, so my appt and bp is good today. Having a maniac toddler running around makes that difficult, I caught him in the laundry room, 3 shelves up trying to get ant poison... in a 5 second time span of me peeing. That was just one incident of the day.

Thinking happy thoughts for you. I really hope all is well. I'm bummed to see all these Pre-E posts popping up.

Also, I don't know much about this but one of my coworkers tried explaining it to me before I ended up just leaving my job, but there is some kind of short term disability I think she said was federally mandated. Sorry I'm no real help because I don't have alot of info someone else might, but if you have to take leave or go on bed rest it might be worth it to check into. Maybe with HR.

Good luck, and I hope all is well!

p.s. The picture of that dog is cracking me up!
