What size diapers is everyone stocking up on? I have newborn diapers on my registry that I'll be buying with my completion discount, but not sure if I should also grab size 1 now or wait until I have a better handle on what works best for baby.
DS only went through one box of newborn and we probably could have skipped those and gone to size one. I have a sleeve of size one pampers swaddlers left over from him, and I found a box on sale at target of size ones. I plan on buying as things go on sale at big box stores so that they are easily exchanged.
If this LO comes out smaller than DS then H can go buy some newborn diapers. Though our hospital stocks you up before leaving.
We are using cloth. I have 19 newborn now and will probably get 6 more, and I have 11 one size and will probably get about 14 more. She won't need the one size until she is over 10 pounds, so I probably have some time on those. Our families typically have 6-7 lb. babies.
I was given a TON of diapers at my shower. Literally, I think I got 600 newborn diapers, 800 size 1s, and at least a solid years worth of wipes. It's a good thing my sister is pregnant and a cousin is expecting twins; I'm pretty sure I'll have diapers to pass on!
The hospital gave us a pack of newborns to go home with last time. I've only bought size 1 swaddlers so far. The newborn size is good until the stump falls off since they are designed to miss the umbilical stump, but DD was a big baby and we went to size one afterwards. You can always roll the top of the size ones down too if you don't want to buy newborn sizes.
I have 2 small boxes of NB and 2 huge boxes of size 1. I'll put Amazon Subscribe & Save on hold after this and then start it up again when I know what size and shape baby we have.
We have about 150 NB diapers and who knows if we will even need them. We have probably 600-800 of 1s and 2s each and some 3s and 4s. I am planning to exchange as needed. We did a diaper raffle at the shower and MIL made diaper cakes so we got a crap load of diapers. I figure it's just easier to have them all and exchange for size as she grows because then you don't need to actually spend money, just need to go to the store. I'm expecting not to have to buy diapers for a long long time! I've also stock piles wipes. I counted yesterday and have 3,168. I think we will be ok for a bit. Lol
After 6 losses, we are so happy to have our rainbow baby!
Unless baby is measuring small, I don't think you should even bother buying NB diapers until after baby is born! The hospital will likely send you home with a bunch of whatever size diaper baby needs in the beginning, and then your DH or someone else can run out to buy more. My DS never wore NB size at all, he was 9 lb 4 oz at birth and wore size 1 from the get-go.
I'm stocking up (just a small pack of NB, 1 big box of size 1, and then more of the larger sizes as I see good deals) but I'm taping the receipt to every box. BRU will exchange them if you have the receipt and an unopened box! :-)
Thank you all for your responses!! What I'm estimating is using NB diapers for MAX the first 2 weeks. If BFing, then you're looking at ~ 10 diapers a day, thats 140 diapers over 2 weeks, again this is MAX. After that size 1 for quite a while - long enough to get some big a$$ boxes of them at least.
Just a naive FTM here...all I have so far is wipes. I am hoping to steal a few diapers from the hospital (although it's Army, so they'll probably have them locked up) and then send hubby out for either NB or size 1 depending on how big he is. Also, I thought people recommended trying different brands to see what leaked least for your baby, so I wasn't going to stock up on any one brand yet. I hope this isn't a stupid plan...
ETA I have no idea how to spell naieve/naive...looks wrong both ways.
I stocked up when I had my son and wish I hadn't. i bought huggies (recommended by my BFF) and didn't like them. i have bought one box of newborn and will just order on amazon when I know what size I want.
