NWMR: Babysitter/Is this weird or is it just me?

I used a babysitter a few weeks ago on an evening when I went out to dinner.  I originally found her on Urbansitter and she had babysat maybe 4 other times for me.  I got home pretty earlier at 10:30.  She didn't seem completely surprised that I was home, but she was giving herself a pedi with my pedicure stuff that she had gotten out of my medicine cabinet.  Clippers and everything.  Kinda gross I know.  I really didn't know what to say and didn't bring anything up.  Now I'm wondering if she would go through other things in my apt.  I'm the most laidback person on the planet and really don't care too much, but a few friends I've mentioned it to think this is SO weird and really invasive of privacy.  I don't know, what does every one else think?  I like her a lot and I really don't want to find another babysitter.  Thanks in advance!!

  • No.  Just no.

That is beyond gross and boundary crossing.

    Also, ewwww.

Yes, it's weird that she thought it would be o,k. to use your pedi kit to give herself a pedicure.

But - the fact that she found it doesn't mean she was "looking through your stuff".  Maybe she had a headache and looked in the cabinet for aspirin or what have  you.  THen she saw the kit.

I wouldn't care too much about her going into my cabinet.

But yes.. her decision making process to think that it's o.k. to use your kit is off.

  • Poor judgment. Poor hygiene practices. Poor manners. Among other things

She would be crossed off my list.

  • No I would not hire someone who went through my medicine cabinet.
  • thats disgusting. dont use her again.
  • Ewwwww. Personal hygiene products like nail files and clippers are off limits. That's like using my deodorant. I'd find someone new.

  • This is just so weird.  I would've known better than to do that when I was babysitting at 15 or 16.  I wouldn't even care if she needed Tylenol or something from the medicine cabinet but a pedicure kit is completely different.

  • It's weird. If she was originally looking for something else, it's still weird. My sitter would have called or texted and asked where the tylenol was and if she could use some.
  • I think that's pretty weird.

Was she embarrassed when you found her using it? Or say anything along the lines of "I hope you don't mind" and did she finish? I have so many questions because this scenario is so awkward in my head.

  • Yeah.  I don't think she meant to be all up in your business.  But it is still weird.
  • Even if you just finished your pedicure and had the tools laying out on the counter it would not be ok for her to use it. A nail file if she broke her nail and it's snagging? Ok. Clippers and the whole thing? Nope. And especially since they were in a drawer. Lack of boundaries. Lack of respect for privacy. Lack of COMMON SENSE :) Not using again.

Did you check your toothbrush to see if it was wet? ;)
