Worst night ever!

It's 5 AM, and DH and I haven't slept yet! We tried to get DS down at 8:30, and it took until 11:15 for him to fall asleep. Then he woke up inexplicably around 1 AM and just fell back asleep now at 5AM. What the hell is going on?? There is no real explanation for it either. He got about 13 hours total sleep yesterday which is decent for him. So he shouldn't be over tired. He took one long nap (2 1/2 hours) but he was up by 3:30, so not that late. 8:30 is actually early bedtime for him, because he usually doesn't fall asleep until at least 9:00. He wasn't crying all this time he was awake. He doesn't seem to be teething or sick. He was just wide awake. My DH is joking that DS must really be a vampire since he's nocturnal.

And no, we haven't started sleep training yet. This is with his normal, comfortable sleep conditions! (Nursing to sleep and sleeping in our bed). I feel like when we finally start trying to get him to sleep in his crib he will just stay up all night. I'm beginning to wonder if he has a medical problem. Ok, I'm just kidding. Kinda. This sleeping thing is a huge reason why I'm not ready to TTC #2 yet, if ever!

  • Molars?  DD went through something similar, and out popped a molar.

Us too. Worst night ever. No crying, just clearly uncomfortable and she couldn't get back to sleep. Fortunately it was just that 1 night. I hope this passes quickly for you all too!
Same here, i was a walking zombie for like a week.

  • We just got up a little while ago. Thank goodness DH is off of work for awhile so we can both take it easy today. I haven't checked DS's mouth yet, but I doubt it's a molar because he only has four teeth right now. He was a late teether. He got his first tooth when he was over 11 months old. But I will check his mouth for any new teeth as soon as I can.

  • That sucks! We haven't had as bad of a night as that, but when he is restless for an hour after being put down, I will go in and take him out. I give him some milk and let him play/burn some energy. Then after an hour or so I try to put him back down.

Good luck and I hope all goes well tonight!

  • Well he let me check the front of his mouth. No new teeth there, but he wouldn't let me check in the back. We got some rest today plus drank a lot of coffee. Going to try to get him to sleep right now. Hopefully it goes better tonight.... [-O<

Just wanted to give some hope, now that the molars are mostly broken through, we are down to 1 wake-up around 11 pm but she is other wise sleeping from 8 pm to 6 am!
