Cloth Diapering

NCDR: Diva Cup

So while I was pregnant I built my stash of cloth pads.  They were great during my PP time and my first few cycles.  I was set that those were all I was going to use ever.  However, my latest period I got was of all places...a waterpark!  So I had to buy some tampons and soon realized- yup I still hate these.  So now I am wondering about what I will do in a similar situation in the future.  Who uses/has used the Diva Cup?  Any pros/cons I should consider before buying and trying one?  Do/Did you love it or hate it?

Re: NCDR: Diva Cup

  • I felt like mine was constantly falling out. I found a size comparison chart of all the cups a while back. I don't know where it is... But I guess the diva is on the longer. So then I tried the Lunette, and I think it's better. Even the Lunette I tried flipping it inside out. But ihaven't used it since December... So idon't really know anymore. I now have 3 cups around the house.

I've never used one, but my u/s tech was just telling me how much she LOVES hers. She said there is a little learning curve, but once she figured it out, she was completely sold on it.

  • I love my diva cup. I only used it for a few cycles before I got pregnant again, but I'm so happy with it. There is a bit of a learning curve, and it takes some time to get comfortable with it, but I much prefer it over pads or tampons.

  • It's okay for me too. I have a diva and a lunette cup and prefer the lunette over the diva. It does have quite a bit of a learning curve though.
I have a crazy heavy first 3 days so use double duty of a cup and a pad or a tampon and pad. As I've gotten more of the hang of it though I do feel more confident wearing the cup out of the house and haven't been reaching for the tampons as much.

  • I only used mine for the two cycles I had between pregnancies, but I LOVE my diva cup. It took me a day and a half and trimming the stem to get the fit right, but it was perfect after that. They seem to not work for everyone, and I guess it was just the right fit for me.

I HATE the feeling of pads, always have. But I can't use tampons a lot because I usually have 2 days of heavy flow and then 3-5 light days where I am really too dry to use a tampon comfortably. The cup is perfect for that, and I was able to sleep in it as well which was AWESOME, as nighttime leaks were way too common for me.

  • I got mine back in college 8 or 9 years ago. I absolutely love it. I don't remember it being hard to get used to, but I do remember having to trim the stem a bit. I bought the new size for post baby, but I haven't had to use it yet. I really like that it is leak free and I never have to remember to carry anything with me. It also holds up well over time.

  • I have a Lunette cup, and I'm not in love with it yet. I feel like it sits very, very low the first few days of my cycle, despite having trimmed the stem. I have a hard time getting it seated properly to avoid leaks, and sometimes it's just plain hard to apply unless in the shower. I used a size chart like a PP mentioned to help pick. I think this was the link: https://theecofriendlyfamily.com/2012/04/what-menstrual-cup-is-right-for-you/. I might try a different cup in the winter, just to see if I got the wrong size anyway. I will say that I love the Lunette cleansing liquid. It smells great, and it doesn't leave an irritating residue on the cup.

I've been going back and forth about getting a cup. Right now I use cloth pads and tampons. I tried the nuva ring for a while and it was super uncomfortable and I could never get it to stay in (it just fell out, all the time, and always felt like it was poking out) so I'm worried that a cup would be similar to that. If I got one I'd like to get a small/short one I guess. But then it's confusing because they recommend different ones for after childbirth, so I don't know what to pick. I should probably just buy one and see how it goes.

Then again, I'm hoping I just get knocked up so I don't have to deal with it for another year....

  • I'll just throw this out there in case anyone is interested. I have a diva (post childbirth) and keeper(prechildbirth) if anyone wants to buy them for pretty cheap.

I've never used the Diva cup but I do have the Lunette Cup (I trimmed the stem completely) and love it.  I remember googling menstrual cup comparisons and at that time (@ 2 years ago) the Diva Cup didn't really get good reviews (I never checked back to see if it changed).  I'm in the US and the Lunette Cup was the highest rated one that I could buy at that time that was in state (I bought it from Amazon).  The most favorite one you could buy overseas but I didn't want that extra shipping charge or the extra time it would take to ship.  I love my cup!  However, when sleeping at night the first day or two of my cycle I have to wear a pad to bed because it won't contain it all since I'm laying down.

I've been thinking about getting one for when my period comes back (im 7 weeks post partum) but I had a c section and I never dilated past 3 cm...I'm thinking I should go for the pre bsby size? Is this right?

They still say post baby. But look at the dimensions on that chart, and there seems to be a wide range of sizes, and one doesn't even have a pre and post baby size.
  • I like my Diva Cup. I cut off the stem and flip it inside out. I usually use it the first few days of my cycle and when swimming. After things slow down I find it more comfortable to just use cloth pads.
