Trying to Get Pregnant

TTC with a period EVERY 2-2.5 weeks :-(

I was wondering if I could get a little advise...

My husband and I have been TTC since beginning of December 2013 and haven't had any luck. I recently tried the ovulation kits but either I'm missing it altogether or I'm only ovulating for a couple of hours. My normal menstrual cycle is VERY short. I usually get my period every 2 - 2 1/2 weeks. On. The. Dot. Could this short of a cycle cause problems for me?

I talked to my family doctor at my annual check up (not the girly check-up- just the physical) and he said I have to wait a full year before trying to consult with anyone.

Has anyone encountered a similar situation? Any advise at all?

Thank you!!!

Yes, it would cause problems for you. If your cycle was normal - implying that you are actually ovulating that often (which I'm guessing you're not), you would need to be O'ing just after your period ends to even get a LP that is long enough for an egg to implant. OB stat.

  • I was in the same boat as DaBearFansWife. I was on the depo shot for seven consecutive years. I went off of it and a year later still no cycle. My OB put me on metforman and I went from no cycles to a cycle every fourteen to sixteen days. I contacted a RE who after hearing my history had no problem scheduling me an appointment.

  • Get a second opinion. If your doctor thinks you will get pregnant with a 14 day cycle he's an idiot.
Son: Jackson, 11/02/06, stillborn due to PPROM and IUGR. Over the next ten years we had 9 miscarriages from 8-14 weeks. On May 18, 2016 my daughter, Ridley, was born. We're OADNBC.

I assume you're talking to me. My OBGYN and I both know I cannot conceive with my anovulatory cycles but since this is the normal course for Depo and my anovulatory cycles are not due to any underlying medical anomalies we don't see the need for unnecessary testing or medication. We are going to wait one year (again, normal course for Depo) and if I'm still not ovulating we will start testing for other causes.

No, I was talking to the OP. I don't see where she said she was coming off Depo.

Get an account with Fertility Friend and start temping/charting, and do the tutorials there as well; saying that you think you might "only ovulate for a couple of hours" tells me you have a lot to learn about how a woman's body/cycles are supposed to work.  Charting would help you to see exactly how long your cycles are instead of guessing at how they "usually" are but stating that they're "on the dot" when you've already said they're around 2-2.5 weeks, not exact calculations going on there.  Charting will also help you to figure out when/if you're ovulating and how long your luteal phase is rather than guessing, and provide valuable detailed information to bring to your doctor at some point.
