Trouble TTC

New here and 1st IUI

Hi, my husband and I have been TTC for 17 months. Last week was our first IUI. I have had very low hormone levels they are trying to get under control with medicine and I also had a surgery for a few polyps and a DNC 2 months ago. My estrogen levels were finally high enough to do an IUI this month so we did it last Saturday the 21st. I went for bloodwork Monday to check my levels and both my prolactin and progesterone were pretty low. Progesterone was at 11 and prolactin was at 1.5. The nurse said this is no indication of pregnancy, but I got pretty upset and am now thinking the IUI didn't take. I can't take a pregnancy test for at least another 10 days either due to my very irregular periods! Anyone have low hormone levels and still get pregnant with their IUI? Going to be a rough 10 days.

Re: New here and 1st IUI

  • I don't have any advice on the IUI but just wanted to say welcome! I hope you find success soon!

  • I truly apologize. I am very unfamiliar with boards and acronyms. What is 2WW? I didn't mean to be insensitive at all, I'm just looking for someone to talk to with similar problems. Is there a different board I should go to?
  • Okay, will do thanks and I apologize again for my ignorance. It was a rough morning.
  • Sorry for your troubles. There is a PAIF board (pregnant after infertility) and the ladies there may be able to give you success stories. Like @iPutKetchupOnKetchup‌ said, most of us have never gotten pregnant so we aren't much help there.

I wish you lots of luck with your current cycle. If you don't get your BFP this time come back and give us an intro....this is a great board for advice on the IF process and support. We would love to have you.

  • Sorry the progesterone level is giving you stress! Hopefully they used ultrasound monitoring in addition to the blood work to make sure the timing was good, so you know there was a follie (or 2 or 3) ready to go?

Did you nurse recommend progesterone supplementation through suppositories or shots during your luteal phase? That's a pretty common treatment to help support in case there is a pregnancy.

You said your test date is really late due to irregular periods...but if you know when ovulation happened, you could feel free to take a home pregnancy test if that sets your mind at ease. Many blood tests are scheduled for 15 days past ovulation - the chance of a false negative is pretty tiny by then.

I hope this is the one for you! (If so, I'm sure you'll be thrilled to intro on 1st Trimester!) Especially since you've been struggling for so long. I hope you are able to move on quickly, but if not, you are very welcome here. :)

  • I think you have a lot of misinformation in your original post.

Your prolactin level should be low.

Your progesterone is on the low side for a medicated cycle, but it's not uncommon, and you can take progesterone supplements. Ask your doctor about it.

Pregnancy test accuracy is related to implantation, which happens in a certain range of days after ovulation. A pregnancy test 14 days after ovulation will be pretty accurate. It doesn't matter how long your cycle normally is.

As far as success stories, no one here is pregnant.
