16 month old sleep help!!!!

DD has been waking in the middle of the night.... pediatrician saknow what to do. id her molars are coming in. The screaming is unreal until I soothe her. No matter what I do, she won't go back to crib without freaking out. When she wakes...it starts all again.

She was sick earlier this week so we let her snuggle..... i dont know what to do now. Help!!.

  • At the risk of sounding silly, if she is teething, have you tried a pain reliever?

I love the Baby Whisperer's methods. It sounds like this is new, so I think "walk in / walk out" would be the right tool to help her to go back to sleep independantly. Read a description here

    Good luck!

  • Our 16 mo son did this for about 3 days straight when his molars came in.  We gave him infant motrin before bed (it worked better than the infant tylenol) and when he woke up in the middle of the night and was inconsolable, I just let him sleep with me.  it didn't "un-do" all of his sleep training and as soon as his molars broke the surface, he went back to sleeping through the night in his crib.  Sometimes when they hurt, they just need mom or dad.

We find that when our son has a sleepless period it lasts about 4 nights. The first and last are just moderately bad and the middle 2 suck. I think they just go through a lot with all their growth, teething and general development when they are young. We do whatever we need to for those nights.

Oh my god this is the same for us too.

OP, right now my daughter has a cold, getting all 4 molars at once and going through the 2-1 nap transition. Things are pretty hellish. She is a good sleeper usually but all these things are making her sleep pretty terrible. I give her Ibuprofen at night and hold her a lot. She just wants to be held and walked by me all day..my back is in so much pain but I'm sure it's a long, terrible phase for her and we'll get over it and she'll go back to sleeping good and being pleasant during the day...

  • Just give her time. It's probably a passing thing.
