Just get drunk!

Some excellent IF gems said to me over the weekend...

"Just get really drunk on tequila. That's how I got pregnant both times."

 "See...I bet if you just get really drunk or pop an ecstasy tab or something, it will happen."

ME:      36, on BC since 1996,  irregular periods.   HUBS:      37, healthy

2001—meet.  2005—marry.  2006—Furbaby is born. 

On BC till end of 2009.  2010 NTNP.   

New Year’s Eve 2010—BFP?! January 13, 2011—early loss, HCG peaked at 324, no D&C needed.

Feb 2011-Nov 2012—NTNP 

Dec 2012 --present (TTC 20 months) Not even a hint of a BFP

Me:  BW, U/S, HSG, HSN normal.  AMH 2.33.  Hubs: SA normal

April 2014--IUI #1 Clomid 100 4-8 Follistim 150 9-14, 5 mature follies at trigger, Peak E2 5/5 1100, BFN 

May 2014 ---IUI#2 Clomid 100 3-7 Follistim 150 8-13, 3 mature follies at trigger, Peak E2 6/6 547, BFN

June 2014--IUI#3 Follistim 150/225 3-15, 3-5 mature follies at trigger, Peak E2 7/11 1450, BFN

July 2014--IUI#4 Follistim 225 2-12, 3 mature follies at trigger, Peak E2 8/12 841, BFN

Breaking till after Christmas, then IVF...taking 4000 mgs daily Inositol and Melatonin 3mg

    I had a client that told me I needed to get white girl wasted and I'd get pregnant. Sigh...

    My MOTHER-IN-LAW told me the exact same thing. Said that's how she and my father-in-law got pregnant. 1. Gross. 2. Obviously there's more to it than just getting drunk.

    Aug 2013 - SA: Counts & Motility = great, Morph = 1%; RE didn't seem too concerned

    Me: 26
    Jan. 2014 - Blood work ordered by obgyn:  Prolactin = high & AMH = low (0.73)
    Feb. 6, 2014 - Repeat blood work ordered by obgyn:  Prolactin = normal & AMH = low (0.9)
    Feb.  20, 2014 - First appointment with RE
    Feb. 24, 2014 - HSG scheduled;  DX:  one tube definitely open & one tube could be blocked
    Mar. 7, 2014 - CD 21 Blood work for Progesterone; DX:  Progesterone level at 5.2; shows I ovulated but was low
    Mar. 28, 2014 - Laparoscopy; DX:  Tubes open.  Found some endometriosis and had that removed.
     
    History:
    Started TTC:  June 2012
    June 2012 - March 2013:  When it Happens/it happens method = BFN
    March 2013:  Started using Fertility Friend
    Cycles 1 - 15 with Fertility Friend = BFN
    Cycle 16 - Benched due to Laparoscopy
    Cycle 17 - Natural Cycle = BFN
    Cycle 18 - Natural Cycle = BFN
    Cycle 19 - Natural Cycle = BFN
     

    Current Cycle:
    Cycle 20 = Natural Cycle

    This was from the same "friend" who told me that as soon as she stopped tracking her cycles (aka counting how many days in her cycle not temping) she got pregnant. This was also after two months; seriously how much tracking did you really do??

    Love the GIF :). Sorry you had to endure such stupid comments. People can be so thoughtless sometimes.

    Official diagnosis: Unexplained IF. I am 32. I have low ovarian reserve (low AMH), and poor egg quality. I've also been diagnosed with mild glandular developmental arrest (lining problems, detected with EFT).

    We are using open ID donor sperm. IUIs #1-7=BFN. IVF September 2014 antagonist protocol, 8R,5M,3F, 5 day transfer of 1 morula = BFN. IVF#2 planned for January 2015 (antagonist protocol + HGH).

    Ha I wish getting drunk would get me pregnant. If I had a dime for every time I got unsolicited advise. Like stop trying or just relax.

    Yup, I get that too!  When I first started trying, a coworker (who got pregnant quickly both times with her 2 kids) said "My husband and I just shared a bottle of wine one night and that really helped.  Alcohol is probably involved in most pregnancies!"  Another well meaning friend asked me how often I was doing the deed.  I told her that the frequency of sex only really matters during the window of time when I could be ovulating.  She said "Well, just have sex every day!  I bet it'll happen."  No people ....no!  I am not one of those super fertile women who gets drunk, has sex and boom I'm pregnant.  I know it happens that way for some.  But not me!

    Me - Left salpingo-oophorectomy at 19 due to large cyst/torsion  and 2 large uterine fibroids found at age 30
    Him - Borderline low sperm count (correcting through Fertility Blend supplement)

    Married 8/20/2011
    TTC #1 since Jan 2013
    First appointment with RE 10/2013.  
    April 2014 - Clomid 100mg CD3-7.  HCG shot CD10 IUI #1 done on 4/12/14 (CD12) ....BFN
    May 2014 - Break cycle to repeat saline sonogram and re-group.  Travel to Kauai 5/7-5/12 (Yay!!)
    June 2014 - Clomid 150mg CD4-8.  HCG shot CD14.  IUI#2 done on 6/9 and 6/10 (CD15-16) w/ Prometrium suppositories during TWW .... BFN
    July 2014 - Clomid 150mg CD3-7.  Ultrasound CD12 - 4 mature follies! HCG trigger shot CD12 AM.  IUI#3 on CD13 w/ Prometrium suppositories during TWW ....BFN
    July 2014 - Repeat ultrasound done to measure size of fibroid - 8x9cm (the size of a grapefruit!) Surgery referral made.
    August 2014 - MRI done which revealed 2 fibroids: a 13x15cm fibroid as well as an 8x7cm one.  Super freak out mode over surgery plan.  OB-GYN/surgeon said surgery would most likely have to be a laparotomy (open abdominal surgery)
    August 2014 - After a 2nd opinion, plan to take Lupron x 2 months to shrink fibroids then laparoscopic/robotic myomectomy.  Surgery date is set for Nov 21st!  
    November 2014 - Robotic myomectomy done (2 large fibroids removed, mild endo found).  Benched x 3 months

    Maybe I should start smoking crack while I'm at it.  Because we recently had a patient that had at least 8 pregnancies and she's a crack addict.  People are so ignorant.

    10/14 5mg Femara(3-7) Follistim 75 (7-9) +Ovidrel +TI (last treatment cycle this year Breaking til after Holidays) (BFP! Beta #1 114, Beta #2 364)

    @kristyn831 lol, the girl across the street from me is a known Heroin addict, she's been in and out of rehab and has a young child, i saw her the other day and she's now pregnant. Wtf? IF is so unfair!

    It does seem very unfair.  This particular woman has custody of zero of her children.  I take care of people all the time who have no business having children and are terrible parents who can't give their children stable lives.  Then I look at MH and I and think WTF.

    People are so insensitive!  I can't believe they said that to you.  Although that was my Aunt's advice to me...."Just RELAX and drink some wine...it will happen." Yeah..that's all it takes...:P  My mom has repeated this numerous times to me...WHY??!!  Just annoys me more....

    I bought 6 bottles of wine to add to our meager sampling of 3 at home. And I bought beer. And we have part of a liquor cabinet in our panty. Before I get white girl wasted I'm going to relax by drinking a bottle, I mean glass, of wine.

    I've heard this one before too.  People are morons.

    Me: 30 yrs (PCOS), DH: 28 yrs (SA normal)
    June 19, 2008: Started dating
    August 12, 2012: Got married
    September 2012: Came off BC pills after 12 yrs
    September 2012-May 2013: Irregular periods (every 45-55 days), no positives on OPKs, used fertility friend
    May 2013: Started actively TTC, talked to OB about irregular periods and possible anovulation
    October 2013: HSG all clear, hormone levels normal, U/S showed polycystic ovaries, PCOS diagnosis
    February 2014: Clomid 50mg days 4-8, many follicles on CD14 but none bigger than 8mm
    March 2014: Switched to RE, saline u/s all clear
    April 2014: 3hr glucose showed IR, started on Metformin 1000mg/day, put on low-carb low-sugar diet
    June 2014: Femara 2.5mg x10 on CD3, 19mm follicle on CD17, Ovidrel, TI, Endometrin suppositories = BFP!!!

    09/2012: Start TTC after stopping NuvaRing.  No cycles seemed to occur.
    01/2013 - 05/2013: Tried Provera to "jumpstart" cycles. No luck.
    12/2013-     01/2014: Clomid 50mg - no big follies, stepped to 100mg; One mature follie, Ovidrel (HCG trigger), IUI #1 completed - BFN
    02/2014: Clomid 100mg;     One mature follie, Ovidrel trigger, IUI #2 completed, Crinone - BFN
    03/2014: Clomid 100mg -     no big follies on 1st round, 2nd round prescribed; One mature follie, Ovidrel, IUI #3 completed, Crinone - BFN

    Went to OB Jan 2014 to test progesterone and Thyroid
    test both came back normal going back
    Feb 6th -2nd progesterone test came back good
    Started seeing a RE april 2014
    Vaginal Ultrasound Normal
    hormone lab came back with elevated C-peptide
    started Metformin may 2014
    June 2014 autoimmune lab came back with elevated NKC
    Decided to move on to adoption Oct 2014.  
    Dh- Did SA came back normal

    Why do clients feel the need to meddle into our affairs in the bedroom. Is that even kosher? I've gotten better at steering the convo away from me. "I'm not that lucky yet". Then mention how cute their little bundle of joy is or something along those lines.

    I've never had someone mention smoking weed to get knocked up. That's crazy. Is the logic it makes you really relaxed? And we all know when you relax you'll get pregnant.

    Wait! we have to get drunk? I thought we just had to stop trying.... so basically it will be a world full of virgin Mary's, drinking margaritas. Everyones getting drunk and no one is having sex. Sounds like a winner to me!

    ugh, that's been one of my favs. some people unfortunately just don't think before they say certain things. i would get that line a lot when we first started ntnp because i decided to stop drinking even when we were trying. it was a decision based on an all around healthier lifestyle choice & i barely drink to begin with, so it wasn't a huge deal. i was also thinking that the less i had to go back and remember doing in the early stages of pregnancy, should we be successful, would be best for my anxiety & guilt. i had so many friends and near strangers say things like "do you know how many people are drunk when they get knocked up?" or "oh come on, have a drink and make some babies already"  the "it'll happen because you'll be relaxed" version is just pointless.
    wish there was something we could all say to make people magically 'get it'.

    NTNP for about a year before actively 
    TTC since April 2013
    Currently testing for infertility cause and hormone imbalance.
    Infertility & ovarian cyst diagnosis: May '14
    B/W: 'good', more ordered to check antibodies & progesterone
    SA: Normal :)
    U/Ss for cyst: who the f knows
    DH's cat scan: showed encapsulated fatty growth; u/s: didn't really show much more
    Breast Specialist: Most likely a large fibroid, but keeping an eye on it, repeat u/s every 6mos 
    HSG: clear tubes, uterus is A-ok
    WHAT'S NEXT: DH's consult with surgeon to discuss next step for growth, either biopsy or surgery~Big discussion with Dr. before any possibility of starting Clomid, since I'll want another u/s before and to be monitored and he doesn't seem into that. I had to force his hand just to order the AMH test so may be looking for another OB
