Would you buy or rent a jumpy/bounce house?

We are having DS's second birthday party next month, and I was thinking of getting a jumpy.  After researching, they cost $200-$300 to rent.  For that price, I could buy a smaller one for his present and still use it for the party.  What would you do?  Anyone own a jumpy?
My other reservation about purchasing one is that we already own a trampoline.  Would it be silly to have both?  The baby could at least jump on the jumpy on his own.

  • DS loved the one we rented for his birds last year but it was only $85 for a big one. I guess if you have to pay that much for a rental it makes sense to buy one and keep using it at parties. But it's not something I would do

  • Personally I wouldn't want to store it when not in use, so I'd probably just rent. Also I've been weary of those things since that video came out of one flying away with kids in it. (Over paranoid, I'm sure. But it crosses my mind). So for me, the less they're around the better.

  • We rent one every year for DS' birthday party. This will be our third year renting one, and he will be 5 in August. There are usually 10 kids at his parties, ages 2-7, and it works great. We get the bouncy house for 6 hours and it costs $150, so technically we could have purchased one by now and paid it off, but I don't truly want to own one. I like that it's delivered, inflated, and taken down professionally. That way it is also a treat for DS once a year.

  • I would rent one. They are big, noisy, and take up a lot of space.

@LalaMama81‌ brings up a good point too, the one you buy would probably be made more for a smaller amount of kids and not as heavy duty as one you would rent.

  • You can buy commercial ones off amazon - they're in the $2k range.

We bought one on craigslist for DSs third birthday for something like $75. They kids love it. It is a smaller one and fits about 4 kids under 4, although we've had more than that in there. We have a huge yard so I just put it away from the house so we don't hear the noise as much. I've also used it inside on rainy days. It is actually the one thing that can entertain my kids for hours and days on end, so I would say buy one! We've also lent it to friends for their birthday parties and stuff. I think you'll get a lot of use out of buying one, for the same price as renting, especially since a 2 year old does not need a giant one. We go to the big bouncy house place for that sometimes. As for storage, it rolls up into a bag the size of a large tent and the blower is about the size of a car wheel. It really does't take up that much space. We had a small hole in ours and I just bought some fabric repair tape, good as new.
