Bottle intake question and intro

Hi ladies! Can I go here? Not sure if intros are the way of this board, but I figure it couldn't hurt. I have a 6 1/2 week old DS and we are EBF very successfully so far. Long time bumpie and my TTC history is in my siggy. Excited to get to know you!

On to my question. We introduced a bottle at 4 weeks, and he took to it easily. To be honest, we've not done many because it's just easier to BF rather than worry about pumping. So today my mom watched DS while I went to the dentist. I pumped right before I left (9oz!) and she fed him the bottle. He took 7 oz! That seems like a ridiculous amount. Most things I've read said that BF babies don't take much more than 5oz ever. He is a big boy (9lb 8oz at birth), so I'm not sure if that matters. Is this normal? Is my baby broken (kidding.....kinda)? My freezer stash is looking much smaller now that I'm considering 7oz feedings as opposed to 3-4oz. I'm returning to work in just under 2 weeks, so I feel like I need to get the bottle feedings under control. Thoughts?

I EP and DD2 (9lb 10oz @ birth) takes about 4 oz per serving. I use preemie nipples to keep the flow at a slow pace.

i'm not a seasoned BF pro yet like PP but i just wanted to say HI! i remember you from IF board. i'm glad things are going well for you

i do think 7 ounces seems like quite a bit at this point. good advice from PP about paced feedings. i also try to encourage DH to slow down her feedings when they do bottles.

Yeah, echoing PPs to say that 7 oz is a lot for one bottle feeding. Breastfed babies can't be fed a bottle like a formula fed baby. Definitely check out kellymom.com and YouTube for paced bottle feeding information! I actually
emailed the link/showed the video I found of paced bottle feedings to anyone who might need to give DD a bottle (daycare, DH, my mom/sister).

My DD started out taking 2.5-3 oz bottles around 4 weeks old when we introduced the bottle, and she moved up to 4 oz bottles around 4 months old after a growth spurt.

I do think I had an oversupply at the beginning. We also have a really fast let down. I thought it had calmed down quite a bit, but maybe not. I just got home from doing a weighted feeding at our breastfeeding resource center. He took 3.5 ounces. So I think we're dealing with a bottle issue. I found the kelly mom article and it was really helpful. I'm going to share it with both family members who will be watching him. I'm also going to do a few more bottles at home so that I can learn how to do it to teach them. Thank you for all of the advice!
