Things to do...

DS isn't yet two weeks, but DH and I are bugging out staying in the house all day.

It's a perfect beach day but it feels a little too soon for this little guy. I can't really go for long walks (waiting for a green light from the dr post c-section). Thanks to all my stupid nesting during pregnancy, we don't even so much as have food shopping to do.

Any other ideas on getting out of the house? What are you guys doing with your LO's?

We go for short walks to the playground (so ds1 can play, isn't as effective if your a FTM), today we are going to go to the beach. I will just put a hat on tiny and have him in the ring sling, if I'm really desperate to leave we sometimes just go walk around walmart (only store we have around), we went to the farmers market on Tuesday..
  • Loading the player...
  • We're limited with options too because it's too damn hot (high of 112 today). DD is just over 2 weeks old and so far we've only taken her to her doctors appointments, my ILs house, and to a car dealership (we up and decided to buy a new car when she was a week old).

We were going kind of stir crazy too, so last night we had ILs babysit for about an hour and a half while DH and I went to dinner. Other than that, we're planning to go on a drive up the mountain tonight with DD (our new car has a moon roof, and she seems to like looking up, so she might enjoy that if the car ride doesn't put her to sleep).
  • Have been out on walks every day this week. We took LO on our friends boat yesterday..I think as long as there is a shady spot to duck out of the sun its ok..but I'm a FTM so I'm just winging it too.

How old are the babies you are bring to the beach, @jenn72178 & @mnopea? We live up thr street from a quiet local beach and are wondering when it will feel ok.

@rachel5130 - its not a terrible suggestion lol yesterday we went for a ride and then stopped and got lunch when we were bored lol.

I can only do 10-15 minute walks once a day right now so I'm savoring those. Maybe today we will walk to the beach and sit on the wall for a while. At least it will be a change if scenery?

@lest12‌ my baby will be 2 weeks old tomorrow.. But he's my second so I feel like I'm not as worried about things?
  • We take LO to target, groceries, etc. We also took her to the beach yesterday. We are on the east coast so it's usually cooler in the afternoons. We kept her in the shade while dd1 went in the water and played in the sand. She slept the whole tine

Target. The Nirvana of moms with small babies. Don't need anything from Target? Sure you do.

Exactly. Also walks, go out to eat, go sit at a park (great way to practice NIP), drive thru starbucks, wear baby and get a pedicure

  • I have taken LO to grocery shopping, lunch, and small walks around the neighborhood. I plan to takr her out more once she hits the one month mark which will be Independence Day. LO has been a bit nervous during car rides, especially when we go over the bumps.

  • Patio?!
(Visiting from May mommas - my May baby turned into a June baby :))

I like taking my LO To the Starbucks patio and just having an iced beverage...
No beaches here so Starbucks it is!
  • We've been to a car parade, car show, farmers market, lots of shopping, a wine bar. C is 2.5 weeks, we just put him in his stroller and he sleeps. 4th of July we're going to the river. Our group also got a hotel room right by the park we'll be at so when it gets too warm we'll go hang out in the room to cool down.

So far I've only taken DS to the liquor store to get some craft beer. Thank God for breast pumps. We've already had the discussion on how it's not cool to judge your parents.

Aww he looks so cozy in there :)

@MommyP710‌ - no drive-in nearby, but that sounds like a nice night out.

I have my dr follow-up tomorrow... dh has to drove me, maybe we will stop and roam around target on the way back.

  • Baby was having a super meltdown so DSD and I decided to take him for a car ride. I stopped at walgreens and decided to take her to DQ for a treat and then we braved the grocery store together... :)
Baby slept the entire time and now he's deflating my left melon. Lol

@babywear I would leave him woth dad in a minute and take myself for a pedicure... sadly I am not allowed to drive yet! Fingers crossed for tomorrow's appointment, I love dh but would love a minute out of the house by myself (with or without baby).

I was nervous the first two weeks, but I just had to get over it! Taking two kids out is tough, but we've been everywhere together now including the pool today! DS slept in car seat for an hour then I BF'd in the shade. I actually brought my Boppy pillow this time -- for my comfort! Then DH held him while I swam after lunch with DD. It's all doable!!

I went to target a lot the first week. I also walked to the park and read while my baby slept.

I've been dying to go to the drive in because I feel like I'd be able to watch new movies and take care of LO at my own discretion. Do you have a drive in near you?
That's such a good idea! I have been wanting to see 22 Jump Street... brilliant mama, muha!

  • It's so damn hot here, it's impossible to go for walks with them unless we get up super early in the mornings.

I just take them everywhere with me. Stores, restaurants, family member's houses... haven't tried the movies yet but I'm loving the drive in idea! Maybe we'll try hitting an early show in the theater though since that falls around their nap time.

Just do what you can and don't worry if it's not too much in the beginning. You'll do more and more as time goes on!

Yup. I consider going to Target a nice little outing & do it often. And I love the idea of a drive-in. What about play dates? Not that a two week old will do much playing but if you have friends or family with kids could you meet at the park? It's nice to sit and talk with friends while the older kids play.

The movie theater near me has baby matinees on weekdays. The first showing is all parents with babies. I haven't gone yet but plan to once I am feeling a bit better after my c section.

So I went to target the other day and bought some clothes... Knowing I would hate some of them. Now I have to go and return them. 2 outings for the price of one!

  • We've been major homebodies these days mostly because DD2 screams the entire time she's in her car seat. It makes it very stressful to go anywhere especially since most of the places we like to go are 30+ minute drives. :( We've gone to Target, Home Depot, church, and the splash park and thats pretty much it.

  • @Rosebud2587‌ DS hates his car seat too. I have to very strategically plan outings for right after he ate so he will be more likely to sleep, otherwise he wails :(

  • @MommyP710‌ I've tried that but it only lasts about 2 mins before she starts protesting. :(

Ds1 hated the car seat too. We switched him to a convertible seat and he liked that better than the infant seat, it's just obviously not as convenient if you're used to taking the infant seat out
  • We went to Costco and Buy Buy Baby today. Murphy got pretty fussy at BBB and we needed to change him, they had an awesome nursing/changing room there so we helped little buddy out and continued our shopping, if only every store had that.
  • I'm glad to know I'm not the only one feeling extremely stir crazy and bored. Most of the time it's just me and DS, who is exactly 2 weeks old today so I'm super nervous about taking him out anywhere. We went to Target and BBrUs on Tuesday, and up to DH's business yesterday. But I still feel so confined! Maybe I will take some of your advice and take DS on a walk. Running out of patience on the couch!
  • @emilyh107‌ that's interesting to me. Our pediatrician is on the conservative side, told us not to go out for 2 months, even avoiding family events (she says 'they have germs too!). LO is 4 weeks and we took her in Monday for a reflux issue and I asked her what she thought about us going to a park to watch fireworks and she said she thought it was a great idea! It's the enclosed spaces and everyone touching everything that's a problem. It's hard because every doctor has a different opinion. Some will tell you to go out right away if LO is healthy and then I just read someone's pediatrician to not even allow visitors for 2 months! So crazy!

A nurse at our pediatricians office gave me a huge side eye when I asked her if it was ok to take LO to see fireworks. She told me she couldn't believe anyone would want to get them out before their 2 month vaccinations and why can't people just wait 2 months.

@emilyh107‌ - I give her a side-eye for being so judgy. She could ctfo.

  • The idea that people can stay in the house for 3 months is really unrealistic. Are you supposed to have everything delivered? Get a babysitter for your OB appointments? If you have other kids how do they get to school? Or do they have to stay inside too to avoid picking stuff up from other kids?

  • My LO has been everywhere with us- but then again he is the third child. So, essentially he has to fit into our lives! He came to my sister in laws wedding at 11 days (my DH, my DD who is 4, my DS who is 2 and I were in it). We have taken him along to a couple of zoos, the beach, amusement park, out to dinner and grocery shopping. I feel badly making my other two kiddies hang Inside all day (although we do it sometimes).

For FTM, I would start small. Go walk the mall, take a walk outside, visit your work to show them off, take them out to dinner with your DH - the movies were a great idea!

So when do people who don't vaccinate their kids or delay vaccines take their kids out in public? 2 months would seem arbitrary in that case. We plan to vaccinate at 2 months but I am just curious. My aunt was telling me that in Japan kids don't get vaccines until 2 years old. I'm sure they leave the house before 2 years. Right?
