cas889's birth story - Baby Benjamin

Here's a very boring one for you!

Benjamin Thomas was born on Thursday, June 19th at 11:53am via c-section.  He weighed 8 pounds, 12 ounces.  Skip the boring story for pictures :P

I found out he was breech at my 36 week ultrasound.  My doctor didn't recommend a version, and even though I know it can be successful, the risks scared me, so I didn't push for one.  I did some kneeling on all fours, and tried the ice pack/hot water bottle thing, but I figured if he didn't want to turn, oh well.  At my 37 week appointment, my doctor said she was scheduling my c-section for the afternoon of Friday, 6/20.

Fast forward to Wednesday, 6/18, I had my 39 week appointment and figured I'd get details for Friday, because I knew for sure he was still breech.  After a quick chat with the doctor, she said she'd send the scheduling nurse in to let me know what time to come on Friday.  The nurse came in and asked if I could be reached at the phone number in my file, because she was "still finalizing things".  I left and didn't think anything of it.

About two hours later, she called me.  She said that due to "a scheduling conflict", I couldn't have my c-section on Friday.  I figured they'd push me back until the next Monday, because that would still be before my due date, and I'd shown no progress/signs of labor.  I was thinking "great, now I've got a few more days to get everything in order" - considering I'd just painted the baby's room the day before and it needed to be put back together.

Nope.  I was told to report at 8am the next morning!  Cue major freakout!!!!

C-section was standard, and we found out that it pretty much was inevitable, even if I went into labor on my own, because the cord was around his neck not once, not twice, but THREE times!  The doctor and nurses in the OR were amazed by it, one said it was the longest cord she'd ever seen and I swear I heard one say she wanted to take a picture.

Adjustment to our new life has been a bit rough, I'm not used to feeling so helpless (still feeling quite sore), and Benjamin either has colic or silent reflux, so we've had some really hard nights.  Plus, I miss snuggling my daughter at bedtime.  But I know it'll pass and we'll get into a routine.

Pictures!
