Wood burning hobby safe?

Hey everyone! So, I've picked up a hobby the last couple years of wood burning. I have made name signs for friends' wedding gifts and other projects. I haven't done anything for a while until today. I have a couple friends getting married this month and started making a couple name signs today. It occurred to me after about ten minutes that the room smelled heavily of burning wood and that maybe it wasn't safe to do while pregnant. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? I have been using basswood rounds from the craft store specifically in the wood burning and wood carving section. It says for woodburning and woodcarving on the package. I have a doctors appointment in a week or so and am thinking I should wait to finish them until I ask.
