So something happened at target that has made me pretty irritated and I wish I spoke up at the time.
Ava was sitting in the front of the cart as we were going through the check out. The cashiers usually always offer her stickers so as this particular one was ringing stuff up Ava mumbled "stickers" to me and the cashier heard. She said "oh you'd like stickers?" Then she ripped some off the roll and said "what's the magic word?"
Ava gets really shy around strangers and usually won't say a word to them. So now she is looking panic stricken as this lady is staring her down waiting until she said please before she gave her the stickers.
I didn't want to make a scene at the time so I was trying so hard to get her to say please. Meanwhile the damn cashier refused to give her the stickers. Finally through tears Ava mumbled please in the tiniest voice ever and the lady handed over the stickers.
I felt really bad for Ava who now didn't even want the stickers and she was all upset. I should have said "geez! She's not even 2 yet! She won't talk to strangers" but I stayed quiet and just thanked her for the stickers.
Has anyone run into a situation like this? Are your kids even saying please or thank you yet? Ava is pretty good about saying them with us but not to people she doesn't know. I don't even know if she understands the meaning yet.
The more I think about that cashier though, I wish I had just spoken up. Ergh
Re: Manners
I was painfully shy as a kid. I would rather crawl in a hole than say please for a sticker.

If you still have the receipt with her name, you could talk to the manager and explain the situation and how she made Ava so uncomfortable. I'm certain that is NOT the guest experience they are trying to promote.
