Tips for summer pregnancies

I got an email today from Everyday Family offering tips for those if us with a bun in the oven while the weather is baking outside. I know we're all tired of hearing "it's going to be so hot!" So what are you doing to survive the hottest, sunniest, sweatiest season till baby arrives? https://www.everydayfamily.com/slideshow/6-tips-summer-pregnancies/?utm_medium=email&utm_source=chatter-06-30-2014-QandA&utm_campaign=Blog&tc=120085

Re: Tips for summer pregnancies

  • My number one: Popsicles. We currently have fudge pops, water ice, ice cream, rocket pops, ice pops and creamsicles in our freezer. Second: sleep naked (or close enough) panties only and everything else hanging out in the breeze.

  • I guess I'm doing what I've done every summer.

Boxer shorts and tanks as soon as I get home.  Stay indoors with the shades drawn to keep out the sun.  And stay inside as MUCH as possible.

Oh, and fans.  Lots of fans at places I spend time.

  • A/C , stay out of the crazy heat, popcicles and keeping my feet elevated to reduce swelling.

  • A lot of swimming. The rest of my time will be spent indoors in the AC. I'm not planning on any type of strenuous activities outside in the heat.

  • I went to the park at 7am to try to avoid the really hot part of the day, but within 5 minutes my hands were super swollen! So lesson learned, stay inside. There is no good time of day to be outside in TN :(

  • I bought a window unit for our bedroom.  We have central air, but the people who did the add on in our house (which happens to be our bedroom) didn't get the air to properly circulate so it gets hot in here.  I am off work tomorrow and plan on going swimming with DD, as long as it doesn't rain.  The last couple times ive tried to go it rained :(

  • I live in Arizona, so I've learned plenty of summer survival strategies.  The main one is to just stay inside.  Everywhere is air conditioned, so all activities from June - October are indoors, we go to a lot of movies.  The main thing I've been doing for pregnancy is eating more cool snacks (like watermelon and ice cream) and swimming more often (but that's more for the pain relief).

  • We attended a golf tournament over the weekend where the weather wasn't too hot (low 80s) but still warm in the sun.  We bought cooling towels and those helped tremendously. I also wear the cooling towel at the gym (indoors and air-conditioned) to help me stay cool.  I wear it around my neck, but it's big enough to put on your head and wipe your face.

  • Stay in the AC.

    Ice Cream!

Changing into the loosest coolest clothing as soon as I get home from work, and then still letting my belly hang out (my husband thinks I'm so sexy, LOL).

    Lots and lots of water.

N/A beer, it just tastes so good going down!

Gas station coke slushies every single day. AC on full blast with multiple fans running and I avoid the outdoors, especially if it is humid. My poor son begs me to go out and play and I just can't. Yesterday I think it was almost 90 degrees and what felt like 200% humidity.

  • A/C. I've avoided using a/c almost my whole life out of stubbornness more than anything else (we didn't have it when I was a kid, and I tend to equate it with being soft and a waste of energy besides. I've weathered my way through quite a few NYC summers with just a fan going...) This year, I feel no guilt whatsoever, a/c is on in the apartment all afternoon.

Pool.  A/C cranked up super high - thank god we have solar panels this year or our electricity costs would probably be more than the hospital bills!

  • I've been in my pool, eating Popsicles, staying hydrated with plenty of water, having A/C going full blast, and sleeping naked every night.
  • It only hit 90 here, but that's effing hot for Seattle. I just sent hubby to buy me ice cream. Mmmmmmm

  • Eating healthy. I have really started to notice that I get all the pregnancy symptoms the day after I eat like shit: really bad acid reflux that isn't helped by anything, swollen hands/feet, nausea, and just overall ugh.

So lots of fresh foods and little sodium and processed junk and sugar
