Trying to Get Pregnant

Nurses/shift workers: OPK question

Hi Ladies,

I'm planning to start using cheapie wondfo OPKs this cycle to get the hang of it prior to TTC in August. I've determined that I'm going to test 2x day...FF states that late morning/early evening urine is best. I work nights 3x week...I can easily test at around 10am every day and 6-7pm after I wake up. My question is this: do any of you ladies that work at night find that certain testing times are best? I'm just not sure how much my disturbed rhythm will change my surge, if at all. Also, is a 12hr space between OPK tests best? Or will my 10am/6pm plan work?

Thanks!

Re: Nurses/shift workers: OPK question

  • I just test once a day until it looks like it might be positive soon. I have a fade in pattern usually. And I usually get positives for at least 24 hours so I don't really stress about timing. I take one when I get home in the morning and usually while I'm getting ready to go back to work. At least for me, timing doesn't have to be very rigid.

  • I'm a RN on day shift-- makes it hard to test, so days I work I usually just do FMU. If I'm positive, it usually shows up at any time of day. If I get a positive or a near-positive in the AM, I'll do a PM too to see where I'm at. Sometimes it will get darker or fade by the end of the day.

  • I use digital OPKs and just use "FMU". If I worked the night shift, that means 5pm. If I didn't work the prior night, I do it when I wake up.

  • I don't use OPKs any more, but when I did I would use FMU and then approx 12 hours later, which varied considerably depending on if it was my day off or not.

  • I work as a RN on days now, but when trying for DD I worked all types of shifts. I would usually test in the around 5 am if I was off or worked days. If I worked NOCS, I would test usually around 5 pm or after at least 3hours of sleep.

  • This is also my problem...some days I work a double 7a-3p and then 11p-7a with a nap in between...then 11p-7a for a couple more nights, then a random day off, then a full day shift. Ugh.

I decided to start with the OPKs a cycle in advance of actually ttc and now I'm glad I made that decision, just to see what will actually happen...
