Trying to Get Pregnant

If you've had an IUD removed

After having Mirena for almost 2 years, I couldn't stand the side effects any more. Progesterone and I just aren't friends. I was getting depressed, moody, and sex wasn't even remotely interesting. I had it removed at the end of April. I'm still feeling a little whacked out. The fact that I'm breaking out like a preteen doesn't help much either!

How long did it take you to feel "normal" again?

Re: If you've had an IUD removed

  • My sex drive came back pretty fast, and then I've been on the usual menstrual cycle hormone rollercoaster since. Nothing worse than pre-Mirena, except for my first real post-Mirena period was very heavy (but it was my first real period in over 2 years, and my first real period post-baby so who knows what it would have been like anyway). It can take some people a few cycles to feel back to normal after hormonal birth control, so how things go depend on your body. Hopefully you'll be feeling more like yourself soon!

  • No kidding on the super heavy first period! Hopefully, everything will even out soon

I got mine out over 2 months ago and am FINALLY tonight seeing a little blood aka first period in over 2 and a half years and I am thrilled. I loved my mirena and had no complaints the entire 2.5 years I had it in but I have had really bad zits since. I am just excited to finally have my period again. I hope it is not super heavy. Should I be scared?
  • I had Mirena for 3 1/2 years and just got it removed June 11. I didn't have a period for the last 2-2 1/2 years. AF finally returned June 24 and I feel great. I never had any serious side effects other than the occasional break out but I do feel more "normal". Everyone reacts differently. I do think exercise and pre-natal vitamins helped me feel "normal", but really that could all be in my head. Good luck, I know it's hard waiting.
