baby doll for 3 y.o. boy?

I am expecting in a few months and was wondering if it helps with the transition to get my son a baby doll. He will have a little sister so should I stick with a girl doll or get him a boy one? Thoughts?

DD had just turned 2 when her brother was born, so that year for Christmas I bought her a baby doll from American Girl because I thought they were pretty realistic.  I don't think it really helped, she adjusted fine though.  Maybe just get him a cheap one so you can practice putting the baby in the swing or bouncy seat and being careful around the baby.  We almost packed up the swing right away because it took DD a while to get you don't put a baby swing like a park swing.

I don't think it matters. Maybe let him pick the doll he wants?

We got my 2.5 year old DS a boy baby stella doll when DS2 came along.  He loved it and gave it the same name as DS2.  DD got a girl baby stella doll and surprisingly, she is not as enamored with the baby doll as her brother is.

I bought DS a baby b/c he was obsessed with DD"s Itsy Bitsy baby. He definitely prefers the babies where the eyes open and close. It's so cute to watch him hold, shush and rock his baby. His baby is wearing a pink outfit, but you could dress the baby in NB pjs of your gender preference.

It can't hurt. Maybe let him pick it out himself and let him "care for baby". Big brother books might work too! Good luck
Great suggestion on picking it out. We do have 2 big brother books that he enjoys. It's great that they make all of these things.

Recommend your doll if you have one please? Not trying to post jack but I'm also actively searching for a doll for DS and can't find any that are simple, not covered in pink frills, no batteries, no bodily functions.

I like the boy Baby Stella. I considered getting one for DS when I was pregnant with DD. He ended up taking care of his lovey like a baby. (My favorite was when he would get up in the morning and complain about being tired "because Teddy was up a lot in the night.")

I got DD a Baby Stella for her 2nd birthday, and DS loves it. I might get the boy one for him for his birthday.
DS born 8/8/09 and DD born 6/12/12.
