Moms of Girls Now Having a Boy

Good friends of ours are having their first boy after two girls. We'd like to get them something small but boy-focused to celebrate the news. My first thought is some onesies in "boy" themes (I'm pro-neutral but she has been pretty "girly" with clothes for her girls, so this might come in handy?), but I also figure lots of other people will have the same first thought. Moms of girls who are now expecting boys, is there anything else we could get that would be appreciated for a boy that wasn't needed so much for a girl, or am I thinking about this too much?

I'd say clothes, for sure!  We went neutral on everything (carseat, high chair, pack n play, etc), but most of DD's clothes were gifts and people love buying girly stuff.  I don't mind dressing him in pink, but a few boyish outfits would be cute, too.

Or something like A+A swaddle blankets in a boy or neutral print?

  • As a mom of twin girls now expecting a singleton boy, boy themed clothes and blankets are the only thing I really need now. I Have a ton of girly clothes x2 and nothing really neutral as we found out what we were having. So that's something I'd really appreciate. Diaper and wipes are always welcome.

  • Same here, as a mom of 2 girls (6&4) and expecting a boy, definitely clothes, sleepers, onesies and blankets in boy colors. Also, maybe boy type baby toys? Like a wooden car or truck?

As a mom of a girl now expecting a boy, the only thing I don't already have that I need are boy-related clothing items or blankets.  I already have all the essentials.  And who wouldn't appreciate something as simple as a pack of diapers/wipes or a gift card!
Crashing the party. But this is the same for me.... only opposite. :P

ETA: Oh, a cute baby "boy only" item to get someone as a gift would be a PeePeeTeePee. Only really useful during the newborn phase before they start squirming like crazy, but they are crazy cute and would probably make parents of girls now expecting boys smile. :)
  • Ok, sounds like clothing is the way to go after all! I thought I was probably overthinking it. I'm just thinking about how much clothing we have already received and reluctant to gift clothing as a result, but it makes sense that they would want some new stuff for their little boy. Thanks everyone!!

  • We have a boy and now expecting a girl. The only thing we really need/want is clothes, diapers, BF goodies (storage bags, cream, hot/cold packs), and a few baby essentials (soap, lotion, diaper cream, gas drops, ect).
My friend that already has everything is getting a box of diapers & a nursing night grown from me. I love getting the mom a gift since usually everyone always buys for the baby, but not mom.

Ooo a friend gave me a peepee teepee! Do they really work that good? With my brother I always laid the new diaper on top of him and change really fast!
I also agree with mrslala, being a mom of a girl clothes, shoes, blankets, anything like that is the way to go.
  • I just wanna say that I'm in this exact predicament and this thread helped A MILLION. I had zero clue what to register for
  • We needed boy bath stuff too. Our little hoodie towels & washcloths were all pink and are frankly in pretty sad shape as our 3 year old girl still uses them. I saw cute sets that had matching bathrobes.
  • I second the a+a swaddles in boy colors. I can't get enough of these.

  • @ambershaw512 I didn't get that much use out of them. They are really more of a cutsey funny item. Once kiddo is squirming around during diaper changes they are pretty much useless. Just cover him up with the diaper or a burp cloth.

Oh! And thanks @bardini for reminding me to add bath items to my shopping list. I have the cutest blue mickey mouse bathrobe with DS's name on it. I should get something similar for DD and some pink towels.

My top needs are boy clothes/bibs/blankets/towels. All of my gear was neutral so this is really all I need and I think you're super thoughtful for putting so much thought into it.

This is for all the caterpillars that never became butterflies. And for all the butterflies that never felt the wind in their wings. And for all the hearts that had hopes and dreams of a wondrous flight together.
  • I have five girls and expecting a boy. I'll be buying more neutral/boy colors to cover my boppy pillow & changing pad and some towels. Everything is shades of pink over here.
