Been building for a few days over my thighs, tummy, back, and sometimes my head. I have tried baths, showers, lotion, witch hazel, calamine lotion, and benedryl. Nothing is stopping it. Anyone have a like a home remedy or something that will make it stop?
I remember reading that sudden itchiness can be a sign if something more serious, sorry I can't remember what and I don't want to scare you, because itchy skin is sometimes normal when your skin stretches, but if you have it all over I recommend googling it and checking in with your doctor.
It can be puppps or cholastasis. It's important you call your doctor to let him/her know what's going on. I have puppps and the only thing that has given me relief is grandpas pine tar soap followed by gold bond anti itch lotion and for my scalp I've been using head and shoulders itch relief. It's not a complete eraser, but it definetly helps and brings some sort of comfort. I hope you find relief soon!
Call the doctor, but be prepared for them to not care... (in case they don't).
Maybe these more serious things are a newer worry because 6.5 years ago when I was at the end of my pregnancy I was itching like CRAZY and my doc just said, "Oh I know, when I was pregnant I walked around the office with my shirt pulled up. It was terrible."
Oh, and lay off the calamine, it will just make it worse. Find some aloe or cocoa butter or something else.
I just put in a call to the after-hours number and left a message. I am on my way to the store to get some aloe lotion. I didn't even think of head and shoulders for my head...hubby has that so when I get back I am taking a shower. Thanks girls.
Doctor just got back to me, he is calling in some meds to the pharmacy to see if that helps and wants me to come in tomorrow for some blood work. Thank you girls.
I've had this almost my whole pregnancy. I take a Claritin in the morning, benydryl at night, gold bond anti itch lotion (green bottle) at night, oatmeal lotion during the day. Cool showers at night and soak in an oatmeal bath when it's unbearable. Stay out if the sun. I sleep with gloves on at night so I don't scratch myself to death when it's really bad too. I have had blood work along the way to keep checking for anything serious. Guess I'm just one of those lucky people to have terrible pregnancy symptoms! Good luck!
Grandpa's Pine Tar Soap (got mine at Whole Foods but I think places like GNC have it) has helped me the most. I had a really bad rash that oral steroids helped knock out and now I take Claritin every day to keep it at bay and could take Benadryl at night if needed to sleep. Obviously everything but the pine tar soap was on doctors orders/recs so it's good that you called in!
