Short Version: Jared Lee was born on Saturday June 28th (9 days past my EDD) at 12:02 pm weighing in at 7 lbs 3.8 oz and 21 in long after approximately 13 hours of labor.
Long Version: My doctor didn't want me going too much past 41 weeks so my induction was scheduled for Friday June 27th at 8:30 pm. After checking in we finally got admitted to our room around 9:30 pm, antibiotics were started shortly after since I was GBS positive. They checked and I was still only at 1-2 cm dilated (same as I had been for the last 3 weeks). At 11:15 pm they inserted the foley bulb and cervidil and we began waiting for results. At 1:00 am I thought my water broke but instead it was just that the bulb had fallen out. They checked and I was at 4 cm and 80% effaced. At 4:00 am the cervidil was taken out and I was at 5 cm. An hour later they started pitocin at the lowest setting (3 mL/ hour) and at 6 am there was still no change when they checked on me. That quickly changed, almost immediately after I was having contractions right on top of each other and decided I asked for some nubain to take the edge off. However, I was experiencing no relief at all so I asked for an epidural at 7 am. They began the bag of IV fluids and all I remember was staring at the bag and asking how much longer would it take before I could get the epidural. They decided to check me before the anesthesiologist got there at 7:30 and I was all of a sudden at 9 cm. I was worried that it was too late and I was in so much pain but they were still able to place the epidural in at 7:55. The epidural worked amazingly. At 9 am they were going to break my water then but realized that at some point it must have broken so I just began the process of laboring down. I needed to be placed under oxygen since the baby's heart rate was decelerating and my blood pressure was getting high. At 10:30 we began pushing and Jared was out at 12:02 am, almost 13 hours after starting. My doctor had me feel his head as he was coming out to feel all of his hair and DH actually looked as he was coming out and even cut the umbilical cord. DH has a history of passing out giving blood and even passed out during one of our labor and delivery classes when we were just talking about epidurals so this was very surprising to me. We immediately started skin-on-skin.
The first two feedings went great through the help of an awesome LC, however since then he has not been latching on really well, partially due to my swollen breasts (from all the fluids I was given) and the fact that he likes to just suck on his tongue. I've been working with some other LCs and for right now I've been attempting breastfeeding then pumping and supplementing. I'm hoping that as my milk comes in that we can move back to breastfeeding only. Other than that he is a poop machine with 6 poops in the first 24 hour and overall a very easy going baby, he really only cries when he poops or when he gets naked. I'm excited to be going home tomorrow and hope he continues to sleep as much as he has.
Without further ado here's one of my favorite pictures of my sweet baby boy with all of his hair.
