Feeling guilty about still nursing at 16 months

My little one is 16 months and I feel guilty about still nursing.  It's morning and night plus an afternoon feeding.  I think when she's ready, she will stop.  I feel guiulty because other mom's are not nursing anymore in my neighborhood.

  • As others said as long as you are both enjoying it you should continue.  I nursed DD1 until 21 months.  I think sometimes moms keep the nursing of a toddler to themselves.  Often you don't see it because it is just in the morning and night...maybe with naps.  When it came up on occasion talking to moms I knew from gymnastics class, music class, the playground that I was still nursing a few told me that they had nursed one of their children until an extended period.

Do what you want to do regardless of anyone else. Dd nursed for 22 months. And only before bed for months before she self weaned. We did what worked for us. My in laws made all sorts of comments but it really had nothing to do with them and I told them so. I didn't force dd to continue. She did because she wanted to. When she was ready, she stopped.

I think what you're doing is pretty awesome.  Like PPs mentioned, as long as you're both still happy with your BF relationship, who cares what others say?  I'd be ecstatic if we were able to make it as long as you and your LO!
  • Why do you feel guilty. Like, you feel guilty about feeding your baby milk? I don't get it!

I get feeling guilty for doing something "bad" like I feel guilty for letting my baby eat dirt outside, but you're giving your baby the best nutrition possible.  You shouldn't feel any guilt! Do what works best for your family!

  • You should not feel guilty, it is recommended to breastfeed until 24 mionths. Also this will make a better relationship between ypu and your baby. When you feel is time, start with techniques for introducing your baby gradually to the bottle.

  • I guess I should feel REALLY guilty then for nursing my 27-mo old. :) I bet some of the moms you know are still nursing but don't talk about it. If you and your LO still want to nurse, go ahead. There's nothing to feel guilty about.
