Hello my loves,
Thank you all for the love and support during this whole journey and as we welcomed our little one. I haven't been around much in the last several weeks and I am so sorry. I am sure that I missed several intros, updates and births. Please know that I have continued to think of each of you often. It's been an emotional roller coaster and adventure the last month!
Short Version:
We welcomed Madelyn Darlene on May 17th (at 37w5d) at 12:17 AM. She weighed 6 pounds 2 ounces and was 19 3/4 inches long. DH and I are so over the moon in love with her.
Long Version:
On May 15th. I went to a work luncheon and proceeded to have consistent mild contractions all afternoon. That night, I had some spotting. We called the doctor and given our history she had me come in. Once at the hospital, my contractions ended... I was sent home at 3:30AM May 16th after they made sure little one was ok. The nurse told me that it would likely be 2 more weeks and not to worry about timing contractions for now... I was 50% and 1 cm.
When we arrived home, I started having moderate contractions. I was convinced that I couldn't be in labor since we were just sent home. I wasn't able to sleep any more that evening as I was up every 5 minutes. Because I was sure it wasn't labor, I thought it must be constipation, and attempted to poop every 5 minutes the rest of the night.
Fast forward to 8:00 AM May 16. I had a training class for work. Since I was sure I wasn't in labor (although unsure of how women dealt with that sort of pain for 2 weeks), I attempted to go to the training. I had a couple of contractions at the table. Then, when I got up to get coffee, I basically wet myself. I was certain that I just peed myself since I wasn't in labor...lol. I was wearing a long dark skirt, so just scooted to the restroom and cleaned up. Then, I sat through another 45 minutes of training... During the mid morning break, I got up, and wet myself again. It then occurred to me that this could be my water...
I went to the doctor and she confirmed that it was my water without an exam(As when she went to the do the exam, amniotic fluid gushed at her). She said it was safe to drive myself to the hospital, which was across the street, so I did. My husband anted to go to the doctor with me, but since I was sure I couldn't be in labor, I was afraid to have him leave work to discover that I peed my pants... Once they sent me to the hospital, I called him and he met me at the hospital. I was 90% effaced and 3cm.
We got into our room at about 11:30AM. I wish I could remember all of the details, but I would need mu husband's help! I know that we labored for several hours until I hit 100% effaced and 5-6cm dilation. I hadn't planned on an epidural, but after one sleepless night, I was afraid I couldn't finish the job without rest. I had the epidural and then proceeded to have an allergic reaction the caused me to itch uncontrollably. So, I still wasn't getting any rest.
After about an hour or so of the itching, I was offered Benadryl. I was afraid to take it and be drowsy during the pushing! But they said it would likely wear off by then. So, I took the Benadryl. I was able to sleep about an hour and a half. When I woke up, I was fully dilated and effaced and ready to push!!
After only 30 minutes of pushing and a 2nd degree tear, our sweet rainbow made her appearance. We had boy and girl names chosen. When they told us it was a girl, we were thrilled (we would have been either way
). We chose the name Madelyn because we like it and Darlene because that was my mother's name. Labor went about as well as we could have expected.
And so that is the story of our little peanut's birth. Our green bean was actually pink and we love her to pieces.
I can't promise that I will be around much in the coming weeks, but please know I am thinking of you and wishing you all boring pregnancies and wonderful deliveries should I miss them!
And now, we introduce Madelyn:
