June 2014 Moms

I'm baaaackkk....

....not that anyone missed me or anything ;)

first off I want to say CONGRATS to all the mommies and new squishes that have been born! I'm a little overwhelmed trying to go back and read all the LB posts and birth stories so just know I am so happy and excited for all of you!

next I want to say that this is going to be a big AW post before I dive deep into the depths of lurker status and I hope that doesn't piss anyone off. I just realized I asked for prayers for Bennett and never came back to let y'all know how he's doing.

so Bennett is doing awesome! after spending 14 days out of his first 19 days of life in the hospital attached to various tubes and wires and getting stuck with a diagnosis of Failure to Thrive (which makes me cringe), we got to come home with the feeding tube. it was discovered that my breast milk didn't have enough calories in it for him, so that mixed with the fact that he had ZERO interest in eating, he had lost a whole pound by 6 days old. the doctors assured me that he was perfectly healthy otherwise and once we got him the right nutrition and he started eating he would be fine. they said by the time his due date came around, a switch would flip inside him and everything would just start happening. it was hard to believe them.

fast forward to June 12, his due date, and it was like he woke up that day and said ok I'm ready to be here let's do this! that day he started finishing his bottles all on his own and not needing his feeding tube at all. he got his days and nights switched back to the right times and he was more awake and alert that day than he had been the past three weeks combined. it was like a miracle! I decided a few days later to take his feeding tube out and we haven't looked back since! he still has a ways to go, he is on an extremely strict feeding/sleeping schedule and has tons of outpatient tests and appointments so there is not really time for anything else (which is why I must resign myself to lurker status) but I would do anything for this boy to keep him progressing the way he has been. he is 5 weeks 2 days old, weighs 8 lbs 1 oz, and smiled on purpose for the first time today. I am just so proud of him.

I really want to let y'all know how truly awesome you guys are. I am so thankful for any and all prayers and thoughts that were sent up for us. it means a lot that we were on your minds. y'all are an amazing group of ladies and I am so so grateful to have been able to be a part of it.

and now for your viewing pleasure, squishy baby pictures!image
