Is it safe to get the keratin treatment or the Brazilian blowout in your 3rd trimester? I have an appointment to get it done this week but now I'm having my doubts. My best friend had it done in her 3rd trimester with no problems but I'm still skeptical.

Re: Keratin/Brazilian blowout

  • I was told at the hair dresser this past weekend that she won't do it on pregnant women because of the formaldehyde. It's not worth it to me.

  • I am a fan of keratin treatments when I am not pregnant. According to my OB (and hair stylist) they are not recommended during pregnancy. Usually, even the "formaldehyde - free" treatments still have chemicals not recommended while pregnant.

  • My hairdresser said an empathetic "NO!" She won't even consider it while I'm breastfeeding or considering having children. She does not feel comfortable with those chemicals.

I was just looking for something easier to deal with than my crazy hair. I'm alright with playing it cautious.
  • My stylist doesn't do those on anyone, pregnant or not - and in fact the entire salon recently said they will not be doing them. But I know I saw that on the list of no's that my OB gave me as well.
