Sleep problems--suggestions??

I'm in the process of re-sleep training DD AGAIN.

She is fighting it hard but putting her down at the beginning of the night is getting better. The problem I am now having (that I didn't have before ST) is that she is impossible to get back to sleep when she wakes up MOTN. I let her cry for a few mins to see if she'll go back to sleep but she's used to nursing at night so I know she's genuinely hungry/thirsty.

I'll go in to feed her and once she's done I snuggle her for a bit and then put her down. She immediately starts screaming bloody murder. We've let her cry and it takes 1-1.5 hours of screaming before she finally goes to sleep. When we did sleep training before she always went down super easy MOTN so I didn't see this coming.

I feel like her sleep (and mine) is actually worse now and I don't know what to do. Tonight will be night 4 so I know it's still early but she has fought me putting her back down every wake up and I'm not seeing any improvement. Help :(

Re: Sleep problems--suggestions??

  • Is she teething? I'm just wondering because dd would do that for a few weeks when she was getting her molars.

  • I am so sorry, that has to be rough. My question is what is the before bedtime routine? Maybe she just needs to let out more energy before bed, or try a relaxing bath before bed with the lavender bath soap.

  • My Lo has been doing this off and on too..I think hes getting a molar right now... I try doing Tylenol before bed and it seems to help although not every night and when he does wake up nothing settles him down... we have just had to let him scream till he goes back to bed.. I tried having him lay down with us but he just would sit up and laugh at us.  Im hoping its just a phase.. the past couple of nights he hasnt woken up but when he intially was going to bed he screamed for a good 10-15 mins which he usually doesnt do.
  • I don't think she's teething but who knows?

Our bedtime routine is nurse, bath, pjs, book, prayers and then crib.

I'm just so bummed because in the past going down MOTN was the first thing to improve and now it's a nightmare.
  • I was just coming on to ask you how your sleeping was going @Boo0512‌!!! I was thinking about you at 3:45 when J woke up for the day!
J started doing the exact same thing MOTN when we. started sleep training!!! So I guess my question is, how long has this been happening? It took us about a week before those MOTN wake ups went back down easy. BUT that made cutting that MOTN feeding easier (sort-of). We still haven't fixed all our sleep issues cuz he's still waking up super early, but I think at the beginning of the month I would've LOVED to only have that problem!!!

C wakes up a few times a week in the MOTN, but he is teething really bad right now and being treated for an ear infection. When he wakes up screaming I assume he's in pain. Otherwise he wimpers. Maybe she's uncomfortable somehow?

I know LO isn't taking a bottle or sippy, but maybe try and have you DH go in and soothe her?

We tried that a few times last night :(

Tonight she went down without crying at all so I'm hopeful that her MOTN wake ups will be better. FX!!

She pooped herself awake, again, for the 3rd night in a row. Ugh.

She was up screaming for an hour and a half after I fed and changed her. And then my h said he couldn't take it anymore and he brought her into the living room X(

She played for another hour and then it took 20 mins to get her back down. Her MOTN wake ups after that went better, she screamed her head off for about 5 mins each time and then went to sleep.

Overall not an ideal night but in some ways it's getting better. She went down again tonight without crying so hopefully the MOTN wake ups get easier.

ETA: thanks for asking @nech0606‌ !

B was a great sleeper, and then I totally jinxed myself! Some nights he is able to fall back asleep right away.  Other nights he screams bloody murder.  I blame it on teething, too.

I have no other suggestions. Just commiserating!
