Getting LO back to sleep at night

This is just out of curiosity from comments I've seen on here. Both of my kids have gone directly back to sleep and into their crib after waking to eat at night. I never have had to rock etc to get them back down. Is this not the norm? After reading posts on here I feel like maybe in more lucky than I thought. How does your LO go back to sleep?

Re: Getting LO back to sleep at night

  • Our answer is different now than it was a month ago. Now, he feels asleep on the boob, wakes up when I put him down in the p&p, and puts himself back to sleep. A month ago, he would've fussed and squawked at least for one wake up. Now he only wakes up once. If at all.

  • SS... she goes back into her pnp asleep but then grunts for a solid 20 min... eyes closed and pacifier in her mouth.
  • We have our rough nights, but typically she passes out on the boob.

    This.

  • DS is mostly STTN now but he used to take some soothing to get back to sleep -- rocking, swaying, shushing; sometimes only 5 minutes, sometimes up to an hour.

DD - who didn't STTN until 11 months - always fell right back to sleep on the boob.

95% of the time I just swaddle him back up and put him back in the rnp after eating and he falls right back to sleep. Occasionally he will need me to lay my hand on him to sleep but not often. Once in a great while DH will walk him around to get him back to sleep.

  • Gets harder as night progresses, but usually he is barely awake until after 5am. Then he grunts a lot & usually stays in bed with me until 7 or so.
  • Normally, I reswaddle after feeding and rock for a little bit (not very long) before putting him back in crib. Sometimes I don't rock and he's goes back to sleep on his on after swaddling

  • Usually it takes about 20 minutes but probably once or twice a week it takes closer to an hour, maybe more.

  • My girls don't eat from 10-6 usually but they do need their pacifier replaced throughout the night or their rock n play rocked a few times.

  • This is something i'm so grateful for! E doesn't want to be up anymore than i (or the DH when he gets up with her). She gets a fresh diaper, full bottle and is back sleeping in less than 1/2 hour.

  • She goes right back to sleep unless it's after 5am or so, and then my choices are pretty much get up for the day or bring her in bed with me.

This one falls asleep when she's done eating with such skill that I can change a diaper and she doesn't notice.

DD1 on the other hand would be up forever and need to be rocked and bounced back to sleep. And then held another 10 minutes before we could put her down. Don't miss those nights.

  • Dd fusses when hungry and paci gulls out, I plug her in, go make a bottle and kind of dream feed her! Works well for us!
