I've seen it a few times now where people thought "Leigh" was pronounced "Lay." I've always pronounced it "Lee." So now I'm curious, how do you pronounce it?
This is my name. It gets mispronounced all.the.time.
Yep! It's my name, too, and people almost never pronounce it correctly if they are reading it. I get Lay and Leah quite a bit. And if I just say my name (like at sbux for example) it is always misspelled "Lee" which is my biggest pet peeve.
Leigh should follow the "I before E except after C or when making the sound of an A as in neighbor or weigh" rule, so when I see it I see 'Lay' but I know a lot of people who spell names like Ashley as Ashleigh so I always end up asking which way they want the name pronounced. I have a coworker whose last name is Leigh and she pronounces Lee and a coworker whose last name is Leighton who pronounces it Layton, so... it's one of those things that don't seem to have an agreed upon pronunciation.
I grew up with a girl named Leigh (pron. Lee) and for the most part people pronounced it correctly, but sometimes someone would ask her how she pronounced it if they just saw it on paper and weren't sure. No big deal - I think it's legit.
Re: How do you pronounce "Leigh"?
Lee = end of the word (Ashleigh)
