Wheat and dairy

Anyone else waiting a year to start 1 or both of these?

Re: Wheat and dairy

  • We've done both. A was either misdiagnosed MSPI or grew out of it right around the 4 month mark, because we have introduced dairy, fish, corn, soy, wheat, tomato, citrus, strawberries, and pretty much everything else you can think of at this point. I was anxious about a lot of these but we keep baby Benadryl on hand JIC and have not had to use it.

The only thing we're waiting on is tree nuts and WCM.

  • We are waiting on dairy because she has a MSPI. We were told to hold off on anything that contained milk... Which is easier said than done, I am finding!
  • I honestly can not remember where but while I was pregnant I read something about waiting until a year for those 2 things because their bellies don't developed the enezym to break them down until then. After seeing your response I did some looking and can't find a solid answer. Some say wait. Some say don't. So I don't know. I think I'll start with wheat and wait on dairy.

    Thank you for the responses!

N's had wheat from things we eat that he tries BLW style (I'm thinking of a cracker right off the top of my head).  I saw whole grain wheat cereal by Gerber the other day and I wouldn't try something like that with N, but small amounts of wheat are OK for most babies if there isn't any other indication of sensitivity to it.  He has also had plain yogurt with no issues.  I am going to ask his ped at his 9 month appointment about introducing OWCM around 10.5 or 11 months- just a tablespoon or so to mix his oatmeal so we don't have to use so much breastmilk since we'd like to make it to 15-18 months BFing,
