Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Mo's eczema is almost gone!

We got a new RX for Mometazone (a steriod cream that's applied 1x per day) and all that's left are the scabs from him scratching his legs prior.

We also got a new car seat and I think that has made a diiference as well.  Something about that material in the chicco keyfit bothererd his skin.

I am so relieved that I have s solution for when he has flare ups.

Now if the diarrhea would go away we'd be golden, lol.

  • Yay!  That is great.  Your post made me wonder if the Chicco car seat could be causing my DS's outbreaks.  He just started having eczema-like rashes and dry patches on his upper arms and shoulders.   DH did some research and found a bunch of info linking it to the car seats:

"I had a horrible problem with they Chicco Keyfit 30 that I've posted about previously. My baby (who has no other allergies and is totally healthy) wound up having a horrible allergy to the car seat. It started slowly, with a minor rash, but within a month or two the entire back of his head turned into a raw open scab. He had painful open oozing rashes wherever his skin touched the carseat. It was so awful.
The pediatrician initially thought it was just a bad case of eczema, but we finally put two and two together. We had a cover made for the carseat, and the rash cleared up immediately.
Apparently the flame retardant chemicals in the carseat are highly allergenic. If you google "contact dermatitis" and "car seat" there's lots of new information about it.
Oh, and Chicco's customer service was seriously lacking to the point of being non-existent. I mean, I was a new mother whose two month old baby was in serious pain, and they sent me a one line email offering to replace the cloth seat cover, which is exactly what hurt my baby in the first place."

  • His eczema only started this summer , and what tipped me off to the car seat was that the areas of inflammation were his elbows and backs of his legs.  They never touched the material before because he usually wore  sleepers.

I would look into getting him a new seat.  We just went ahead and purchased his convertible car seat because he was getting too big for the infant carrier anyhow.

We got the Graco My Ride 65, and so far I think it's a great car seat and the material is very soft and plush.

I am so glad you posted this!! I would've never thought of the car seat being the culprit but it makes perfect sense.  The fabric is not breathable at all and he always sweats in it.  Thanks for the info on the new car seat, we need to get one asap!

  • HI!

Thanks so much for posting this! My son's eczema got severely worse after we went on a road trip, specifically where his skin was in contact with his chicco car seat. We are looking into getting a My Ride 65, I read though online, that different models have different types of fabrics. If you wouldn't mind me asking, which one did you get? I just want to try an find a fabric that works well for him.

    Thanks you!
