Got my test results yesterday and I passed! Still can't believe that I don't need to test myself for the rest of this pregnancy.

I am continuing to watch what I eat though in hopes of curbing the weight gain and just in case I develop GD later on. I will likely not participate in this thread actively but will lurk when I can and respond if I think my previous experience with GD will help anyone here.

My favorite toy as a child was a My Little Pony doll house that I used birthday money to purchase myself when I was 10. Sadly, my Mom threw it away when we moved. :(

Check In:   I have my GD class this afternoon.  3 hours and I don't get my diet until next Monday.  At this point, I am going off a general GD diet.  Also, the mail order pharmacy is taking their sweet time getting my testing supplies to me.  I checked on line and they aren't even shipping them out until tomorrow (I mailed in the prescription for them a week ago).

Recipe of the week:  I haven't tried it yet, but Jalara48's post this morning about grilled cheese had a link to a cauliflower grilled cheese example.  I might try that some time soon, as I have heard that the cauliflower pizza crust is a decent substitute as well.

QOTW:     What was your favorite toy as a child?  I loved Legos as a child.  DH did as well, so I know that Schroeder will have more Legos than she knows what to do with.

  • My testing is getting better out in public. I was so proud of myself when I was able to test at a restaurant without anyone knowing except for DH.
My testing is still not constant as it should be. And we'll my good logs have not been filled in. Although my meter does keep a record of all my tests. So I just need to fill it out.
I go in on Friday for a check - in with the dietician and for my A/S. DH is going with me. I am so looking forward to seeing LO again.
GTKY: I really did not have a favorite toy per se. I do remember playing a lot of Barb and with Cricket (similar to Teddy Ruxpin) read stories and play with her.

I just had my test done this morning and as soon as I drank the sweet stuff, I immediately felt light headed and my heart started pounding super fast. I also got diarrhea like 20 minutes later, which I'm contributing to it since I was fasting at the time.

I'm just wondering what others experienced as symptoms before the test? I don't recall having any symptoms when I took the test during my first pregnancy so I'm fearing a little bit that my symptoms today could be a sign that I will test positive. I know I just have to wait for results to know with certainty but I was just wondering if those that tested positive had any obvious symptoms after drinking that juice thing?

  • I just got back from the GD class and I can't say that I learned a whole lot.  Now, if someone hadn't spent the last few months reading about GD, management techniques, and such, then it would have been helpful.  Just not for me.  At least they were able to give out our "diet" plan in the class and not have to wait until next week's dietician appointment.  My plan is pretty similar to what I was already doing and found as a sample with the wonderful help of Dr. Google.

Following a few weeks of rising fasting numbers (usually anywhere from 110-160), my MFM increased my nighttime glyburide dose. And then of course this morning it was 56. I really wish my numbers would be more consistent.

My gastroparesis is back with a vengeance (the bitch put me in the ER for severe pain and vomiting this weekend), which makes the numbers even less consistent, since my food and pills don't digest in the expected amount of time. When my GP flares up, my stomach acts like a clogged sink. I'll even sometimes hear gurgles when it starts to finally empty. Insulin isn't a great option with this condition, since it goes to work regardless of whether my meal digests right away or several hours later. The MFM also suggested that I try taking Reglan to help with my gastric motility. I picked up the prescription, but I'm really nervous about some of the potential side effects. The other option is to stick to a mostly liquid/low residue diet while the GP hangs around. The GP-friendly diet can be pretty high in carbs, which is just yet another challenge when you're diabetic.

As a small child, I had a stuffed dog named Daisy. I played with her until she fell apart.

We had a whole convo about this yesterday and how I spike at 2-3hrs instead of one, it makes treatment hard
  • Hi, my name is Holly and I was just told today that I have tested positive for GD.  I don't go back to the doctor (with my supplies) until Wednesday.  I had been expecting this so it is not a huge shock and I know that it will be better for me and my little boy but damn it sucks!

No booze or doughnuts!  But I realize that mine is temporary and I really will appreciate any support and advice you ladies have!!

  • @lrobi13‌ I get it. I got the same phone call two weeks ago. I just went to training yesterday and am happy to say that cake and doughnuts are still ok as long as they fit in your carb ranges. But apparently every day at every meal is frowned upon. FWIW, today's the first day I've felt right blood sugar-wise in a few weeks!
Thanks!  I honestly haven't been eating too many sweets but I am sure there are a bunch of things in combo with one another that are causing the issue.  I am looking forward to my class so that I can do this the right way.  Just wish I had a personal shopper/chef to make it easier

It's a common problem too; I just wish our treatments were up to snuff about it. But another question I thought of for higher 2 hour post prandials - what's the fat content of the meal you are eating where you see the spikes? Fat and some higher protein meals will hit me much later, causing a rise way after my insulin is most active. I don't really have a solution other than change what you eat, which is frustrating because you already are. :-/
I find that animal fats generally digest the slowest, but (at least when my stomach is generally behaving) I do better with plant fats like avocados and olive oil. Nut butters don't make as much of an impact as nuts, I guess because my stomach doesn't have to work as hard to grind it up. And of course the fat+carb combo is always bad news. Anything breaded and deep fried (or carb-based and fried, like french fries) is way worse for me than something that's low-fat but still high in sugar.

  • I went to the dietician today. I list more weight. They want me to get it stay the same weight or even gain. That is hard from keep to do. I eat my 3 most of my 3 meals and snack sometimes. I am just not gorging myself and eating lots of candy. Both I did pre - pregnancy. So how do I find a balance between getting 8 my snacks and meals and still keep my BS down so I don't have to go on insulin?

@Sockgnome78 Did your dietitian not give you any good ideas? Maybe try increasing your lean protein portions in your meals and snack on calorie-dense foods like cheese and nuts.

Sadly, we've had to remove pasta from our dinner planning list this week. Two dinners featured it and my blood sugars were steady in the 160s even after measuring everything out. Sigh. DH is running out of ideas... Said he's going to start feeding me cardboard, but I'm afraid that will have a carb count too. :-P
Do you ever eat Dreamfields pasta? It still makes me spike if I cook it too long, but if I cook it 2 minutes less than the box says it's usually fine.

I don't get tested until August. I know I'll fail - the question is whether I'll fail as horribly as last time! Ergh.

@MrsL2B‌ Not really. She mainly suggested drinking carbonated water. Because my water intake has been laughable. But nothing about food intake to steady out or start to gain.

  • My dietitian told me you are better off to eat your "carb" intake than to try and lower your carbs. It is consistency they look for.

They told me 30 breakfast and 45 lunch and dinner.. That 20-30 snacks

Or 30 for all meals and snacks.

It is much harder to treat if you are trying to change your numbers by changing carbs because one good reading can cause the next to be high. I was mega stressing producing high numbers 140-170s eating 45 carbs and then eat a low carb meal and it would go down only to shoot up again eating the same things that cause lower numbers

They started me in glyburide, just 2.5 in the morning and I eat my recommendations and all my numbers "mostly" have gone down. I feel much better.
