Gas from paci sucking?

So LO is EBF and has had the paci since the hospital (soothie). Recently he seemed to not be able to keep the thing in his mouth and needed a bigger "nipple" part. Plus he only liked the one from the hospital since it was thinner and more flexible than the thicker soothies in the store.

Well I bought several and DS1 took Dr Browns. We tried those, advent, Nuk, and Gerber Essentials. We settled on the gerber essentials because of the larger nipple. However LO seems to be taking in a lot of air around corners of his mouth and been battling gas way more the last few days. Anyone have a good paci for EBF babies?

  • I got a Chicco one free with our car seat and Cecilia takes that over the soothie. Haven't noticed her sucking in a lot of air

Ours likes the Soothies with the elephant attached. It's called a Wubbanub or something like that. The weight of the animal helps it stay in her mouth but not all the time.

Thanks! The Gerber essentials don't come in a different age range. I tried Mam tonight along with a few others and he keeps going back to the Essentials. :/

Someone had posted about the Soothies being "thicker" than the one in the hospital and we noticed this too however I found a different maker of the same exact soothie tonight but it was the one they have in the hospital!!! It was made by Phillips Avent! Looks exactly same as the other but thinner!

We don't have a BRU here, only Walmart, so I will have to check BRU and the tomme tippe ones out! He just really seems to keep these Gerber essential ones great (other than the air) and they are cheap!! He also does
Better with the latex rather than silicone.

  • We use Avent here. I've heard good things about MAM and Gumdrop pacifiers.
  • I second MAM and want to mention Nuk. Those are the 2 that our guy will take. He hates the soothes though so it might not work for you. I know Walmart has Nuk.

We tried Nuk and Mam last night...it was a no go! He's back to the essentials. I think it was something I are that's caused him bad gas..it's getting better but he still does take in air around his paci so that's some of the problem!

  • Do the wubbanub toys disconnect from the pacifier for washing?
