Dirty baby fingernails... A mystery

How does my 6 week old little boy get dirt under his tiny baby fingernails? I gave him a bath yesterday morning and managed to get his nails clean with this little scrub brush from the hospital bath. By 2:00 his nails had gunk under them again! Where does it come from? He's certainly not playing around in the mud!

It's from them scratching their face and your chest and clothes while you hold then all day. It's skin cells. Gross I know!

And then where does the dirt between their toes come from as well? I was just complaining about all of this yesterday.

It's dead skin and oil combined with the colored lint from clothing and blankets. DD's nails get the dirtiest when I wear dark colors.

I was asking myself the same thing and figured it must be from the constant kneading of my chest that he does with his little hands while he's breastfeeding.

Omg I was wondering the same thing. I would give him a bath, get his nails cleaned and then an hr later or so they have dirt again. So nasty!! And the lint between his fingers and toes is gross too.

From peely feet skin. They shed their entire top layer after birth so that stuff is everywhere!

So funny! And the muck found between the folds of her skin- combo of dirt, lint, and skin. I swear I bathe my baby!
