I had my HSG this morning, which was a horrible experience because of the idiot doctors I had. I had a resident and a fellow, both men, but I'm hanging in there...I believe in teaching medicine (I work within this healthcare system) and gender discrimination is not right, so I'm going to suck it up. In short... These two ( profanity of choice here) dug around at my cervix for over 35 minutes because the different catheters and dial actors were "stuck". The tech kept suggesting they stop, give me a break, call someone else at at least 10 mins in. They finally stop to get hellp, and I am dizzy and can't feel my knees from lying there so long. I get up and have blood running down my leg. The resident, as he was digging around there, informed me that the whole procedure was easier In women who had already been pregnant. When they finally get the a female ob in there, she is in and has the test done on under 10 minutes, including her prep and cleanup. they wanted to wait for one on the others to come back in before inserting the dye, and I told her I didn't want to if it wasn't medically necessary and she went on immediately.
I made a point to tell the rad techs what a bad experience it was, filled out the comment cards (the tech was practically begging me to please document this) and when the idiot doctor came in and started to apologize I cut him off and told him we would be discussing that, let him give me the results, then told him that as I worked here too, I was going to give him some feedback in kindness. And that the patient experience was horrible, and he waited wayang to long to ask for help.
Then I called my RE's office, who was horrified, are going to try to get this comp'ed, and confirmed that I AM PERFECTLY NORMAL - the entire problem was their incompetence. She is call their attending physician so this is addressed in their reviews.
My hope is that two idiots take this opportunity to learn when to ask for help, and this prevents actual harm in the future. Ladies, PLEASE - if you have a doc who can't do the procedure, don't assume the problem must be you like I did. Make sure to ask if they are a specialist in this before they start, and set a timeframe for yourself for when you will ask them to escalate to someone more experienced.

I am SO ANGRY for you that he would dare to comment about women who had been pregnant that I am actually seeing red!! I am so proud of you for being so classy and doing your part to make sure it doesn't happen to someone else! I don't care about being sexist right now and they are just macho egotistical pricks for refusing to get help! I hope they both grow a cervix and someone attacked it with a catheter for 35 minutes! ARGH.
My RE only tried a few times, with some break time in between, and then he just shot the dye from outside the cervix with some device to keep it from leaking, and it worked just find. Can't understand why another doctor couldn't do the same. Throat Punch!!
