Trouble TTC

IUI med changed and SA questions

Hi ladies,

The pharmacy just called me to tell me they are sending out my injections this week. I confirmed for Ovidrel, and they said my Follistim changed to Gonal-F. It now isn't in a pen form, it's a syringe that we need to draw up the dose. She said this was so they could change my doses easier if I am not responding as well as they would like me to. This is all before we attempt our first IUI. Anyone know what Gonal-F is like combined with Ovidrel?

Also, hubs has his SA when we get back from our honeymoon, grand timing obviously. I have to call my RE again to make sure I understand exactly when we can/can't. So can anyone help- it is the 11th at 8 am. When is the last time we can? I was told no more than 5 days no less than 2. Is that right? I need exact dates from them so I don't screw this up. Happy honeymoon hubs!

Thanks girls!

Re: IUI med changed and SA questions

  • Thanks, I am not sure why it isn't in a pen. He just said it will be in a syringe where I have to draw out the dose. Not sure why the change, I'll ask my RE. Thanks for the clarification, and good luck!

  • Follitism and gonal f are interchangeable, so there shouldn't be a 'reaction' with the ovridel. I'm not sure why they didn't give you the gonal f 900 pen(s)? What's your starting dosage? I use the gonal f pen and changing my dosage is super easy.

DH usually abstains 2-3 days before, and it hasn't been an issue.

  • Like PP said, Gonal-F and Follistim are the same thing in terms of the actual drug, so I wouldn't worry about that.

My doctor usually tells us to have sex when we trigger, and then we have the IUI 36 hours later. (No MFI. Not sure what your situation is.) Then we don't have to stress too much about the timing because we can have as much sex (or as little) as we want up until the trigger, and then we know to abstain.

It's no more than 5 days, and different offices vary from 2-3 days depending on your RE. His numbers may be on the low side if you only abstain for a day or so, so 2-5 days is usually the sweet spot.

  • No advice about the meds. I just wanted to say, kudos to both of you for abstaining for an SA for part of your honeymoon! I can't believe what IF asks of us sometimes. :(
